U.S. Peavey Club

One of you asked to see a photo of the lifted solder pads on my Cirrus preamp. Here is one of the boards. The corner pad for the volume pot and the pad for the battery are both lifted. I have no idea how to fix it. I watched a videos, but not much help in this case. Maybe my soldering iron was too hot ? Maybe I used it too many times and wore it out ? Not sure.

A Forum is like an Axcelerator. Both have VFL pickups, and a two band active EQ. All are bolt on necks and 34" scale.
The Foundation is passive. The early ones had Super Ferrite pickups, which is the name on the pickup, too, and the later Foundations had passive, single coil pickups that look like VFL's. The Forum also came in P/J, dual VFL, and single VFL like Michael Anthony had for a while.

I honestly don't know what the difference is between the Axcelerator and the Forum that has the dual VFL's. They look the same, seem like they have similar pup position, and controls. Maybe it was a spare parts thing. Besides the body styles being slightly varied, I don't know.
Maybe Kodiak or Tim"MN Airhead" know ?

I provided the pickguards for the templates.

The prices are correct , if you read the ad :thumbsup:

Price structure is by size. Cat 1 (control cavity plates)/Cat 2 (Patriots,Axcel,Fury,Foundations etc)/Cat 3 (T-40 or T-20) , and by material.

Simple 1 or 3 ply are $14, $41, $45. For 4 ply add $2.

Compare that with Pickguardian and Pickguard Planet , their prices start at $51 going up to $78 for pearloid.

Those 2 also have lengthy lead times , you're looking at weeks. Brian ships in a couple of days.

TB'er in the US needed a clear PG for his Blue Flower Fender , dropped mine off for the template.
He was $60 inc shipping ,PG Planet are $77 just for the plate.

Total time from placing order to fitting the PG was 6 days.

Last year I bought a gen. II Foundation. I love the neck and am happy with everything else EXCEPT the pickup. It’s not the sound, it’s the physical design that bothers me. I like to rest my thumb on the pickup. But these pickups are nearly flush with the case/frame (not sure the right term) so there is not much of a ledge to hold my thumb. If I raise the pickup any higher, it would hit the strings. Using the frame as a thumb rest puts my hands further away and is uncountable.

Has any one else had this problem? What might help my situation? Thanks!

I would remove the pickup frame and mod that to add some mass to it for your thumb. Probably a fairly simple mod.

EDIT : I've been thinking what would I do ? I'd consider looking for a black, uncut nut, piece of wood, plastic, etc and drilling two holes into it and fastening it to the pickup ring. Basically, like a thumb rest you see on old Pbasses (which never made sense to me ! Nobody puts their finger where those things are mounted !) Or you could find out the dimensions you like and go the the library and make a 3D print of it, or maybe someone here has a 3D printer who knows how to use it and could make one easily.

Nah nothing on you

every bass has different ergonomics
Like yamaha extended pickups

and musicman with the “ears”
Or you can always get a pickup cover built and cover them. Personally I’d do that and have them curved to match radius
