Hey, I am about to apply the clear coat on the Patriot I am restoring. Had a delay because one of my dogs played with the body when it was hanging and I had to paint over a scratch and due much wet sanding.

The new color is polar white.

It will not be as nice as that Fury though.

I used Deft Brushing Lacquer Clear Gloss from Lowe's. Sprayed it on with a $14 HVLP gun from Harbor Freight. I thinned the lacquer about 10%, but probably didn't need to do so. 7 coats of lacquer. Probably should have done more, but I was beginning to make mistakes while trying to correct earlier mistakes. Decided to wet sand, buff and polish with seven coats on. Not afraid of spraying anymore, so must have learned something.

Thank you! The Foundation was a $130 rescue from a pawnshop on the westside of Indy. The Fury was a $75 bass at the pawnshop just up the street from it.

Appreciate the favorable reviews on the Fury. Good thing it was a labor of love. No way I could charge for the hours it takes to do a job, screw it up and do again.

Strung it up BEAD and spent a lot of time getting reacquainted this afternoon. It looks better than I play.

Well I gigged with my Patriot that MNAirhead set up for me and got so many compliments. I'm thinking about buying up all of these before they catch on with everyone.

There were 2 other bands on the bill. One played an Ibanez and an American Jazz. The other played an Epiphone Jack Casady that I got to play a little, which sounded amazing (I think that's on my to-buy-list).

I got nothing but compliments from both bassists about my tone..and believe it or not, the Epiphone guy said "I could have sworn you were playing a Rickenbacker by the sound of it." I could see them eyeballing my little $159 Patriot up with amusement, but we showed 'em!

I'm still amazed at the set-up that I got from MNAirhead. Low, buzz free action. Perfect for me.

That friggin' super-ferrite pickup is amazing. Anyway, here's a shot of me and her in action.

You just made my day.. there's one of the "what's the best action" threads .. the young I posted back several models and categorically suggested popular models/brands that are a gamble. Folks are suggesting thousand dollar basses vs setup and lessons.

I was hogpiled for suggesting the young guy NOT spend a ton of dough and buy a consistent gamble... with better setup

Patriots ----

Sincerely I'd never thoguht much of them... I had a patriot guitar.. it was a volume knob only whammy bar 3/4 scale.. nice guitar.. just not my dealio.

About a year ago, I trade MTM's TL6 + a bag o' patriot parts for a GT7..... Kevin traded back the TL6 (yes it's that nice of a bass) and kept the Patriot - did a great job assembling it. He has his strung with Ken Smith Lights.

Yes.. he can cop a Squire/Geddy tone all day long on it.. with out the hassles, expense and discomfort of any Rick I've owned.

They do sound different than a ferrite Foundation/T20/TL5/Dyna - I'm unsure what technically the reason is.
