U.S. Peavey Club

Somebody scored two good ones from GC today.
A Gen 2 black/maple Fury for $219.
The other is a Unity Series PJ neck through for $249
The Unity is white with white headstock and black tuners and bridge.
I'm sorry I missed the Unity.

That white unity was pretty scuffed up on the back.
I feel better about missing that one then.
I don't want to buy beat up basses, most of mine are in such good shape that there is no point in buying anything that is not in great shape.

I really don't need another PJ now that I have that well built magenta Yamaha Attitude Standard with the awesome feeling wide shallow neck.
The EMG Geezer J I needed came in the mail so I can make it sound as good as the rest of the bass is. :)

I still have the Forum passive P/J that I scored off Craigslist. It is in excellent condition and is a superior bass in every respect….except it is red and I would prefer black.

I was tempted by both the basses you mentioned and then thought…”Would I like them more than the Forum? What would I use them for?”

The answers to those questions were…Not likely…..and….You never use the Forum so you would never use the Fury or the Unity.

I played my fretted Bubinga top Cirrus 5 in church this morning and will play my Gould ggi5 tomorrow night. I miss theB string when I play a 4 string.

Any Peavey experts know for sure what the triangle logo represents or the origin of that design ? I have seen it on USA Millenniums as well as my USA Foundation 2000 bass , Thanks

I'm with you. My Forum Plus (that I converted to passive via Wilde P46/J45L) is an amazing bass. Plus, it's green, so I love the color. I can't justify a Fury, I love the tones of blending pickups!
However, I mostly play 5ers and often miss that B. The exceptions are my 'older' music bands, where a 4 string is the standard issue.

That triangle is a delta. Mississippi is often referred to as "the Mississippi delta". So, they kinda got cute there

I agree although as a geography major in college I am required to note that Meridian isn't in the Mississippi Delta region, it's on the other side of the state. Close enough for marketing purposes, I guess.

The logo may also refer to the Delta Blues - plenty of blues have been played through Peavey instruments, amps, mics, and PAs.

The pics are from the ebay auction where I bought it. I straightened out the saddles and properly intonated the bass when it arrived. Yes, I agree that it was likely played lefty by its PO. That being the case, it would have nothing to do with whether or not it was refinished. I'm pretty skeptical about the originality of the finish, too. Still, on close inspection the play wear on the body was commensurate with the overall wear. If it was refin'd it was a very pro job sans any signs of a refin.

While I had it for about a year, the neck began developing a twist that was probably going to get worse. Paid $150 for it, put it on consignment at my local shop for $90 with the proviso that the twist would be made known by anyone interested in the bass. It sold in a couple days to a buyer who only cared about the oddball finish. The odd finish was the main reason I bought it in the first place, myself. Too bad about the bad neck, it had cool factor and was light weight.

Really too bad about the next twist!
(The foundation with the paint: https://reverb.com/item/49274620-peavey-foundation-1980s-flip-flop-usa-bass-guitar)

I learned it here, so I'm sure someone else was also about to mention; but that does look like a paint color Peavey at least had on hand around that time.

According to this catalog image, they called it Harlequin Violet/Gold...kind of hard to tell what's what in a static image, but Charcoal Metallic Violet (the other possible candidate) is not a color-change color. I've seen a few guitars for sale with this color, and this is the color the bassist for Duran Duran has on his Cirrus.

I just thought I'd post (and finally say hi) because this bass looks like some kind of ancestor of my pair of USA Peaveys:

In 2007ish, I ran into a used 90s Peavey Foundation in a music store and fell in LOVE with the neck. I almost went back for it, but wound up picking up this one from ebay instead:

It's a 1991 (IIRC) and it came to me with this refin. There are traces that it used to be red, but it has an oil finish now. These pictures don't look too bad, but it's not the best job. Over the years, I have rewired the stock pickups, put on some vintage knobs, replaced the bridge with this black Spector-esque version, replaced the tuners with Grovers, and drilled a ton of extra ..uh, "tone" holes as I repositioned the strap buttons and replaced the string tree (oh, AND drilled string-through holes below the bridge, although these strings are too short for that). It's wearing the low four of a 5-string D'Addario tapewound set and tuned up to C#-standard. (Almost as a secret to myself, the thick strap goes with the black hardware, natural-bass, and jazz-bass design with Tim Commerford as a design reference.)

And they're, idk, younger sibling is this 2001 (IIRC) Peavey Millennium Plus that I picked up from Reverb in 2020. This is the Harlequin Violet/Gold paint. It's also tuned in C#-standard, but with a mix of EB progressively-"flatter" strings: a stainless 130 round, a cobalt 105 round, a 70 cobalt flat, and a 50 nickel flat. (Almost as a secret to myself, the paint and name ("millennium") make it the perfect vaporwave bass—so I added the sticker to the cover plates.)

Can you name all 50 states ? :)
I had no idea about the Delta sign.

I get the triangle/ Delta logo but what is the scribble behind the triangle ? hmmm ..... Maybe a "M" ? Also wonder why it is on my Foundation 2000 ? I can tell you that my maple neck with Delta logo is a work of art ...

It's like Colorado being referred to as the "Rocky Mountain" State, though about half of it is part of the "Great Plains," the "High Plains", to be exact. I grew up in the high plains, but have lived along the Front Range for more than half my life. I had to explain a lot as a kid traveling that I didn't live in the mountains, but flatlands that are 4000' elevation, which is pretty high for someone from a coast to acclimate.

I have wondered about the scribble, too. In my mind, I chalk it up to 'flair.' IIRC, Peavey started using the Delta/Scribble/Block logo right around 1990 or so. Scribbles and such were used quite a bit, as the 80s were fading away.

I had no idea about the Delta sign.

My folks gave me a jigsaw puzzle as a kid with all the states and their capitals. I used to be able to name all the capitals as well as ID a state by shape even when flipped/reversed. Haven't needed that knowledge in a few decades so I might be a bit rusty. ;)

You are correct. Peavey trademarked it in 1991. The squiggle looks like it might represent a sound wave which would be appropriate, but I may be overthinking it. Peavey didn't renew it, so that trademark expired in 2016.

@wild4oldcars Thanks for posting that video, very interesting. There are a bunch of swooshes among Peavey's trademarks.

The sound wave theory seems plausible when you look at the list of products this trademard was intended to be used on....

"signal processors, mixers, audio cassette tape players/recorders, loud speakers, microphones, mixing systems comprising a combined preamplifier and power amplifier, audio frequency power amplifiers, preamplifiers, amplifiers, mixer/amplifiers, utility mixer/amplifiers, modular mixer/amplifiers and electronic crossovers"
