Here are the specs from the previous owner:
- USA Peavey Axcelerator Plus
- Swamp ash body
- 34" scale maple neck with Pao Ferro fretboard, 21 frets, 12" radius
- VLF pickups 18v active 2 band preamp bass / treble
- 2TEC isolation bridge
- Hipshot Drop D
- Dunlop Strap Locks
- Weighs about 8.5 lbs
- Original Hard Shell Case, hang tag, key.
As it turns out this isn't a + because it doesn't say Plus on the headstock. However it is exactly like a Plus and also like a 2-T. I have attached the owner's manual.

I'm pretty positive they use the same pre, but definitely different pickups.

Here's my GV with said Hipshot A and a few truss adjustments. Note that there's still room to go on the saddles. Btw, the fretboard isn't ungluing...Scotch tape to smooth over glow dots.

It's also worth saying that string height is only partially controlled by saddle height - neck relief and nut slot depth are also major contributors to playability.
There was a FORUM on GC Used about a few weeks ago in excellent condish and it was $179 or something stupid ridiculous like that. It lasted all of an hour or so. Not like the old days when Peaveys on GC Used would last MONTHS !!!!
It's amazing how often slot depths are too high on many new and used basses. Often overlooked, even the slightest bit high can make a big playability difference. A good set of nut files are worth having.
The Axcels use the standard format VFL found in GV, Cirrus etc.

The G&L PTB circuit is only cut for treble and bass. Works great with MFD pickups, as they are sort of hyped in the lows and highs and have a little more output than a typical passive pickup. Backing the volume, treble and bass off a touch and they sound 'vintage.' When you add the active preamp to the PTB (like on the L2000, El Toro, etc...) they hype reduction is really helpful.
The "Bass Contour" cut knob used by Reverend is much more popular on their guitars.
Those loading caps are often used to shift the resonant peak of the pickup, making the high end/upper mid characteristics noticeably different. G&L does this a lot, too.
Some cap values are chosen to act as a global HPF, tightening up the low end. It's like those Broughton and Thumpinator pedals that are really popular with bassists. They just cut out the gnarly mud at the far, deep end of bass output. A single loading cap chosen for bass cut is not nearly as elegant as these pedals, but waaaaaay cheaper.

I adjusted the neck so it's basically flat. You can get the same action with the stock bridge and using the neck tilt correctly. I had the Hipshot bridge laying around, and didn't want to mess with the tedious tilt function.
@PeaveyPlayer probably has a neck that's messed up. I had a previous GV where I used the stock bridge and tilt, and had no problem getting really low playability.
The Bongo has 4 bands of boost/cut and I routinely have to cut the bottom especially on outdoor gigs to get a good mix. Otherwise can sound boomy and like you are pushing the subs too hard. Cutting the low and boosting the mid-high/high does the job along with some pup blend. Super hot pre's tend to have this issue in my experience so the bass cut can come in handy.

Axcelerator and the single pickup Forum share the same preamp. Separate high/low pots on the Forum were replaced by a dual concentric pot on the Axcel.
Different pickups though , the VFLs in the Forum and G-bass cover a wider area of string length.
You should give one a spin . Good friend of mine sold her quintet of Cirrus 5'ers and replaced them with Axcels , my purple 5'er is one of them

Thanks for taking the time to check. Good to know. I'll be on the lookout for a Axcel+. If they sound anything like my Forum I'll be thrilled, and so will my back and shoulder!
The black/chrome Axcelerator 5 was on my short list as I love an active 5er. I have a friend that had a black 4 string version and I really liked how it played and sounded. However, my project '91 Dyna 5 popped up for peanuts first and I went that way.
Prices have jumped considerably since then, otherwise I would still grab one to live with/get to know/compare and contrast to my other 5ers. The last really cool deal on a black/chrome 5er popped up several months ago on Reverb or ebay for about $300 shipped. It sold right as I discovered it. No biggie. Those days of $150-250 US Peaveys was a really fun time!! One got to try really cool basses for pedal prices. Not that $400-600 is too much for a bass of that caliber, but it takes time for an old man to adjust to these new-fangled prices. Get off my lawn!

I’m thinking about offering my US Millennium Plus 4 string up for trade for a U.S. Cirrus. Not positive about the market now though I know both basses are climbing. Is that a fair swap? Or am I barking up a tree?
