I have the MAX700, the cosmetic rebrand of of the Firebass. Keep the DDT enabled, your speaker cab will thank you. Gigged for 17 years with it. Yeah weighs a ton (52lbs) but has survived major falls off my cabs because of a clumsy drummer tripping on the wires.
You essentially have two effects loops, one instrument level thats FS able, the other line level (preamp out/power amp in). Both are buffered too.
The DI is transformer balanced isolated and opamp driven, and the amp is 2 ohm stable.
I know this because I have the schematics. Impressive build quality considering the cost new and what you can get it for now.

These look great with the black faceplate. The white on the 1st gen Firebass was cool, reminded me on my T-Max. But the black is cooler.
I was just thinking back, although they were fairly new I never had a Firebass come through the repair shop when I worked there (2003-06) I had brand new 7enders in there all the time.
If I had a Firebass/Max 700, I would have installed SpeakOn connectors by now. I have a tendency to do crap like that

Definitely grab one! It was my very first amplifier head and certainly will not get rid of it despite its weight.
Cool mod and a good one too. I never had a need to do so but thankfully they have quarter inch to speak on adapters without having to drill in the back plate. Actually I have the opposite adapter speakon to quarter inch female so that my newer amplifier heads can adapt to the older cabinets with 1/4-in. I've only ever had to repair my 410 TVX input jack which was easy enough to do just bend the tab so that it's tight again.
The last picture you see I had taken the amplifier out of its wood casing for inspection and a full cleaning with the air compressor. It was plenty dirty around the fans but even after all these years it still works like a top though I expect I will have to change out the filter caps just because of the age. You can also see why all the weight is on one side of the amplifier with the transformer. If only there was a way to put a switch mode power supply and eliminate that big heavy transformer I'd still be using the head to this day. The mini mega comes very close to the abilities of this head. It's not as feature laden, there are some cutbacks in terms of build component features but that one weighs 9 lb and as far easier to transport.
I prefer the black faceplate, too.
I also install Speakon connectors, they are superior in every way and really should be required equipment, especially on any amp over 100W. The banana/5-way has a great surface area connection, but not the stable, locked-in security.
I have drilled and Dremeled so many jack panels on my amps and cabs with these...
All of my older bass and PA cabs were easily modded with Speakons, often with the above jack on the panel. However, in some cases, this round jack made it really easy, just need to drill a 7/8" hole into the cab and grab 4 short wood screws to secure. Smart design.

Here's a 90s Yorkville PA cab with panel jack mods and a Peavey 1x15" and Kustom 2x12" with the round jacks.
-There was a lot of room on the Yorkville's jack panel right there, the 1/4" jacks and protection breaker are on a circuit board. The install location didn't cut into any of the labeling. It nearly looks stock.
-Conversely, I not only replaced one stock 1/4" jack, but tried to countersink the Neutrik jack on the Peavey cab. It was a mess, I used acceptable/crude/not perfect tools for the job and my poor skills and impatience resulted in a messy looking mod... But it works! Nobody looks at the jack... haha
-I merely cut out the charcoal sparkle vinyl with an Exacto and drilled out the Kustom cab. The vinyl is not glued down solid like Peavey's tolex, so the jack is holding it in place. I was just going to replace the stock jack with the Neutrik, but I like how it's also the labeling for the cab. Plus, it can still be used in that .0001% chance a 1/4" cable is the only option.

I have to this! It never even occurred to me!?!
It all started in the later 90s when my good friend that runs a production company was modding his existing PA cabs for Speakon (some were 1/4", some banana) while also building custom cabs that received only Speakon jacks. He would use no other jack on his cabs, and after looking at how they work and connect, it was solid logic. I helped him do a bunch of jack swaps and then went home and did the same to my PA and bass cabs.

You need (well you don't NEED to but...) to grab a Foundation...I personally love my mahogany '87....there is just something about the two single coil Super Ferrites that really does it imho.

I'll get some pics up possible later this evening. I am afraid of the Foundation only because I hear the neck is a pencil. I love the ones I have because of the chunky necks.

The Foundation does indeed sound amazing.
The Foundation neck is indeed pencil thin.
Fortunately they are detachable and replaceable.

I went chunky with a 44mm nut. I also went headless.
sounds amazing. there was a foundation with a patriot neck on here I was trying to trade for but it didn't work out.
I have a Patriot neck. It needs to have a qualified person look at it. PM me.
