Awesome score on that Foundation! My '83 is that color (Inca Gold?), maple board, but not in as nice condition as yours. I might have outbid you, had I seen the auction.

How old does a bass have to be to be considered Vintage ?

Like everyone has said, 25 years old is the "official" age for vintage nowadays.

It wasn't like that in the early days of the vintage craze. My first vintage bass was a '57 Pbass. It was 15 years old when I got it, and had already been considered a classic for many years before then.

Does anyone know if the Direct replacement bart is still available?.. it was the only one that didn't require hacking the bass up.

Thats a really nice foundation, especially with the old Peavey "P" knobs. I had seen it around ebay for a while, the price was originally set a little high but gradually as time went by it got more reasonable. Would have checked it out if I had not got my Patriot when I did. How much did you pay for it?

I've found alot of good deals, this one I payed alittle more than I normally do, the color & knobs got me !

I think I have 1 of every model Foundation now - '86 & '89 Foundation S, '90's Foundation fretless, Foundation 2000 &
this '84 w/ Supre Ferrites.

I thinking about selling the '86 Foundation S.

Congrats, what a great Gold! In the 2000 Millennium brochure, a similar color is called 'Gold Sparkle.' If anyone wants the pdf, email me.

I have that one myself, the Foundation 2000. It's a very nice 5-string and the colour is titillating!

Pickguard heaven will make you a replacement.. figure about 6 weeks and $50

NOTE... send them a photo as there were multiple generations.

For $50 don't expect them to custom build it and waste a ton of time in pointless emails.

Hey Tim,

My issue isn't with the pickguard, but with the Pickup covers:

The pickup covers on the Split-P pickups on my Fury are detached from the pickups themselves.
Meaning, the pickup drops to the bottom of the pickup cavity, and turning the adjustment screw on the cover
only raises/lowers the cover. I need to raise the D&G pickup to equalize the output volume.

I can see a bit of silicone type material at the base of the pickups. I'm guessing that the covers were once adhered to the pickups by that means. If so, then I imagine that I can use clear window silicone around the pickup cover to reattach them.

Fair assumption?

My bad.

I always use removable window calk (weather stripping) or Hot Glue...

REason is it stays on top.. only a few drops will do it.

After 20 some years this stuff does happen.

Why not place foam under the pickups which will push the pickup into the covers.

Foam degrades.. the pickup covers will crack under the pressure.

If the springs are operational all we need is a flexible glue that will not penetrate.

I wouldn't use any type of silicone that smells like vinegar (ascetic acid). The majority of silicone in tubes uses acetic acid as the solvent. Probably wouldn't do any damage but I've seen the fumes cause flash rust on bare steel.

Like MNAirHead, I'd use a little hot melt and some foam if necessary.
