I know what it says in the manual Friend and it's a bare-faced lie.
Click the thumbnail below. Highlighted in yellow is the term 'Naturalite', this was Peavey code for cheaper lighter timbers; your hackberry/cottonwood/poplar/gum etc.
Note how in the other highlights it's 'select hardwoods'
Now Peavey have always been one to bend the truth, and normally I let it slide, but not when it concerns 'Naturalite'; that one has always bothered me. Reason it bothers me is Mike Powers, a man I hold some respect for. He was the brains behind my favourite Peavey basses; Patriot being one. When 'Naturalite' use started, Mike went on record and followed the corporate BS line of claiming hackberry was a species of ash

Red and Green will both go to the same pot lug, either 1 or centre depending on who soldered it up.
Black/White/Bare all go to ground on the back of the pot.
It's a pretty pointless option for a P-bass split coil, unless you enjoy a drop in output
Well, whatever it is, it still looks pretty. Albeit mismatched. Here is the back, if it's anything, it's not poplar. I'll let the masses decide. I'm just glad to have it back.
I thought that the Patriot shape was their first attempt to make a lighter, efficient (hangs well on a strap), compact, good looking, bass body shape that was not a copy of any other bass that was currently in production. I appreciate the Gen 1 and Gen 2 Fury as an improved Precision Bass shape too.

Some of the hackberry bodies with multiple pieces are really mismatched and look like crap, and some ended up looking like one or two piece bodies.
The grain on the meranti basses was pretty easy to match pieces.

I want to join the Peavey club, can I be added? I have a Unity koa passive and want to get more info on them and on all my other us Peavey basses I own.
Despite all the wood fake outs Peavey did...i do love the mismatched Koa bodies. They have a lot of character in my opinion. And the fake swamp ash/hackberry is pretty damn nice on most of the ones I've seen....even the mismatched ones. That's just one man's opinion. The bottom line is that they don't make them any more so enjoy what is available. There's enough variation that you should be able to find something you like.
That looks like some type of Ash to me, the color and the open pore grain...?
She is gorgeous and one of my favorite bass shapes of all time. That purpleheart pickguard is all class. Amazing bass sir!
Agree....That's Ash (Hackberry). The herringbone in the grain is a dead giveaway.
Koa is such a beautiful wood to begin with, so it's hard to make them look ugly.
It's just funny to read about Peavey talking about matching while it looks like they were not trying very hard on some days.
Lots of baseball bats have been made of hackberry for a long time and baseball bats are where lots of us got a taste for liking "ash".
I love the looks of my (and yours) hackberry Gen 1 Fury.
They did a great match in the front, pretty hard to tell it's more than one piece.
The finish always feels great in my hands, better than a glossy paint job.
Solid, durable, not easy to scratch or dent.
I love nice paint jobs but push comes to shove I prefer a clear coated ash body for long term use.
I would probably enjoy a relic'ed painted body because there's no concern for scratches and dents.
