Hope all is well with you all!! I have a very interesting problem with a USA Custom Shop Cirrus 6 I just received. I believe it's a grounding problem with a twist. It hums until I touch it then it stops. And when I take my hand away it doesn't hum. But at some later point it hums again. So I remove my hand and it stays humming until I touch the strings again. When I let go it doesn't hum. So it's an intermittent problem. But it drives me crazy! Any ideas?

Sorry, I'm not entirely sure.

Marcin originally comes from Olstyn and when we last met he mentioned doing up his Grandparent's place if he returned home.
In messages sent after I saw the photo he talked of surrounding forest, wildlife and rivers but the land was flat and he missed the Scottish Highlands.

Flat with plenty of forest and rivers pretty much describes Warmia so I'm guessing the Grandparents home had a makeover :cool:

Larry, I believe it is a grounding issue and I'd start by checking the bridge ground, the cavity shield ground and the pickup ground solder job to the pre.
If all those are good, it's probably somewhere on the board and I would not mess with it. Get in touch with Peavey tech support.

I got this USA Millennium 5 as a project a while back, and I finally got around to dyeing the top and starting to shoot clear coats…

The project, how I got it….

And here’s my start on finishing the body….
I’m going for a “antique brown meets tigers eye” look. Not as much yellow as tigers eye, but I still wanted to have some “glow” to it. Now I just have to shoot a ton more clear coat and sand, sand, sand….

When we were sold Koa and Mahogany...... for some reason, we were told to use stuff like Tung Oil..... I did this to my foundation and should not have.....

Note on the Koa Unity---- there were some that had neck stability challenges. It's been a long time since I've touched one.... it's possible that they may have the same bridge modification needs that the RJ-IV has

The ferrite is a single coil so it will have some hum, how much depends on the environment. The Dynabass, Foundation and 1st gen TL-5 all had ferrites but one was RWRP so you got hum-cancelling with equal Vol settings, not an option with the Patriot.

Shielding will stop some noise but it does nothing for 60 cycle hum.

I spend 99.9% of my time on single coil P-basses. Nobody notices the hum during songs and there's plenty of tricks remove it if recording.

IMO, hum is pretty much a non-event.

Very cool project! I used Tung oil finish by Formby's on my Jazz bass kit. Yeah the sanding is a bit mind numbing but i liked the result, it was on Okume wood. I dyed it with black shoe polish paste to create a finish that resembled the seventies but didn't want the "relic" vibe.

Sad. Just went into Guitar Center to check out a G Bass. Had cash in pocket, also had the option of a jazz bass for trade. Played it for 10 or 15 minutes, was in the store for well over 20 minutes…… Not a single employee said hello to me or asked if I needed anything. Several of them walked right around me where I was playing. I guess they don’t give a damn about making a sale. I was ready to go, but honestly, I just don’t want to give them my business…

If it's the white one that shows up on the GC website, it has a non functioning truss rod. It's a little hard to tell from the pics, but the action looks quite high.

The standard operating procedure of GC employees may have saved you a bunch of money.

The action was decent, but that’s good to know on the TR !

I would’ve just returned it…. But it was almost an hour drive for me to get there
