This is a cool Unity I played today. It is the shop ownerās personal bass.
I have a Dyna Bass bolt-on that has/had a problematic preamp. I found it on Craigslist, and it needed serious TLC. Super clean condition but definitely dirty with someone not cleaning it. Needed a full setup, but when done, it looks CRAZY clean for a bass this age!
I took the Peavey preamp out and put in a Nordstrand 3 band. Huge improvement!!! The Super Ferrite pickups come to life with the new preamp! The date on the Peavey preamp said 1981. Did they even make a Dyna back then? Add to that, it came in a super new-looking OG chainsaw case with all padding intact! The bass was dirty but the case was clean. Odd. However, after the preamp install and a bunch of badly needed shielding, this thing is a KILLER!!
I am going to put it in rotation and see how it does!

Very cool!....I have a 1st gen Fury with slant SF....real nice ....also have a 89 Fury in white with a Chandler tort PG It came with a Duncan SPB2 Hot p pickup which ha I yanked immediately! In went a Duncan SPB1 vintage p and it sounds proper p bass... the Hot Duncan p just sounded overblown and bombastic lol! My 1st generation Fury sounds great and love the full neck where the 89 has the J style profile.....so yeah I like the slant SF in the 1st generation and the clear ash body and maple big neck.I was meaning it's suited specifically towards the split coil P super ferrite 916 makes. The split p form factor. As opposed to putting one in say a Fender P bass or any other brand. Im not at all trying to get it to original Fury specs or sound, just trying to make it a cool P bass. I feel like Peaveys and super ferrite pickups belong together but again, at the end of the day, I just want to build a cool P bass and the feel of the Peavey neck/body are the biggest parts that make the bass what it is.

Anyone have any stock lolipop BLACK tuners (4 in line) ... hoping to find some for a fury....
I'm not certain if you had a Schaller - someone smarter can comment what came stock.
It's just whatever came out of the 90s black neck fender.

Why get rid of it? I'm endorsed by a pickup company... they're making me a no-pole highly radiused P...
I need to get a swap out done before I go on camera at a festival.
My understanding was Schaller did the hex adjust pole piece (DiMarzio copy) PJs in the Foundation S and that was it.
Flat pole Fender style they could get cheaply from multiple sources.
Any idea who multiple sources were in 89? I have a Peavey Tracer with Kahler Spyder tremolo which is a Floyd Rose style I think it is from 89 as well....pickups look Schaller one
hex key HB bridge and a flat pole single coil neck 2 piece neck ...it feels quality but the nut was cut low.

I don't think Schaller was viewed like the far East...certainly Schaller was known for quality and Japanese parts the same but yea touchy subject!Japan, Korea.

I'm not too sure "quality" was the point, it was more Peavey pushing a "MIA" narrative which was only partly true.
At least in the mid/late 80's it was still partly true, later claims were downright dishonest

MIA was pushed by many companies with import parts in the 80s...yea we know what happened with Peavey in the 90s...Peavey was in trouble and Eddie Van Halen witnessed it in person@DavidEdenAria

.It's really not a big deal to me Peavey basses are still abundant used and downright cheap to buy ...at one time Michael Anthony had a endorsement with Peavey not sure what happened.
I doubt it was as bad as it got here in Europe
We had pretty strict rules until some (bribed) judge in Dublin ruled any alteration or process performed in Europe allowed for a "Product of the EU" label, test case was partially frozen bananas from the Caribbean and Pacific islands. Apparently defrosting them enough for sale in supermarkets made them EU produce
That was the floodgates open. An ex-GF and her sisters all worked for a local clothing factory, contract went from making garments for a well established and respected High St chain to snipping "Made in India" labels off imported clothing then stitching "Made in the UK" in it's place.
Those Indian garments were high quality so consumers didn't have a clue but it was the death knell for the garment industry

We had Sam Walton pushing MIA at Walmart until his passing...At which point the heirs quietly threw MIA out the window....By the 90s I was seeking old tube gear and Japanese produced gear as most was still viable...we weren't quite to 'throwaway consumer gear' but it was closing in lol!
I just checked the PJ pickups that I removed from my Dyna Bass Unity Koa and they are, indeed German Schallers.
