You might visit the USA mellinnium page. Lots of info on this over there, but in short we have all found that stainless steel strings work the best on these. I use th DR fat beams. The high beams are good too.

What strings are on it? As noted, that can make a big difference.

Wow good question, I believe they are EB super Slinky. Yes it is the E,A,D and G from a 5 string set. So I think they are .100/.045's. The other thing, for the life of me I can't understand why they didn't put the neck tilt adjustment on this bass. I mean it played nicely, like I had owned it for years. The 35" factor was a complete non-factor. Even when playing on the first 4 frets.

Once again there is plenty of info at the USA mellinnium club on this. ( post pics too, we love'em) There is an easy shim that most of us do on the mellinnium, gets the action really low.

I do agree though, they should have put the neck tilt on it.

It was shimmed the night I brought it home, well next night actually. I got it right about 1/32" which is fine for me. The odd thing is that the neck even has the c,bore for the tilt.

The neck and body were dated which was cool because now I know what year it is from.

I guess technically Chromes as stainless steel... been using them for about 5 or 6 months now with great results on my 2 Mills.

I seen that on my neck heels too. Wonder why they decided not to to it( neck tilt). My 4 string was also dated but not my 5 string. I use three business card thickness at the heel for a shim. Just a 1/4" by about a 1"long. Seems to work pretty good.

I use just about the same dimensions for my shims. I cut them from a belt sander. I find the grit of the paper bites well into the neck pocket and/ or heel of the neck.

I am going to try different strings and work the e.q. on my amp head. Started to play with the settings last night. Still not exactly what I want but much better than where I was.

Being a 'rounds-only' guy for all of my playing career, it definitely took some getting used to.... especially for slides. Kept going past the note! Sound is great for the hip-hop band I'm in... nice and full with very little fret noise. I found that boosting the mids almost all the way with the mid sweep about 75-80% up give me a great deal of low-mids, which I love.
