Been meaning to do this for a while. My Peavey pair, Foundation Super Ferrite and Foundation S.

The Ferrite has a Basslines Blackout two band tone circuit. I can get convincing P out of neck, J out of both, and the versatile EQ lets me get really spashy clanky Rick-esque sounds too. It's very versatile, It could be a one bass only bass.
The Foundation S is Fat, growly P or P-J. Unlike many P-J's the pickups mixed compliment and broaden the sound spectrum, nothing taken away.
I can like the bridge pickup soloed on both, the acid test for a FAT tone freak like me.Absolutely love both of these.

Best I remember the 4 string and 5 string Foundations used the same pickup sets (same as DynaBass). There was no wider 5 string version. Be aware that they are a set with one being magnetically out of phase with the other so I would purchase as a set only and not individuals. When the tops of the PUs are put together they should lightly stick together and not repel each other. They show up on ebay occasionally.

I pulled out my USA made Peavey Axecelerator Fretless on Sunday for church, man that thing sounded good. I was originally going to use it for just one song, but our soundguy liked the sound so much he convinced me to use it for the whole set.

gard0300, I love that bass. That was the same color and model of my first bass. I know a pawn shop that has/had that bass. Wanted to get it, but the neck scared me away and plus it had a screw clamp around the nut.

Anyway, beautiful bass and enjoy!

They do. I have a '93 Foundation 5 and it's the same pups as my '91 DynaBass 4.

These are single-coil pups, right? I have a '87 Patriot Custom with a single SF pup and it hums more than I'd like (but not at all when pointed in certain directions, or standing in certain spots in the room). Is this just something I have to learn to live with, or is there a way to tame the hum? I shielded the cavity with copper tape, but it only helped a little.

I have one as well (same year even!), and shielding with copper tape is the best I've found so far. I think single coils always have hum, I only have 2 basses with singles in them (the other's a rick) and they hum when using only one single coil.

Yep. Super Ferrites are single coil. Being magnetically out of phase and wired out of phase forms a humbucking pair when both are on for a two pickup model.

Looks as if I'll have another TL-5 on its way to me soon.. I've been thinking of taking one of them and having it defretted.

I have a fretless TL-5. The previous owner installed Bartolini J pickups. It's the best sounding fretless 5 I've ever heard.

Did he have the fb epoxied? I would think that thick slab of ebony would be hard enough without it.

It has a phenolic resin board. I've always assumed it came from the factory that way. I'll try to get some photos.
