I really like the white, tort and rosewood. Bet it plays and sounds as good as it looks.

I'm not usually a fan of gold hardware, and prefer maple boards on the older Peaveys, and white isn't my favorite color for a body, either...
But that is one of the sweetest looking basses I've seen in a long time! Absolutely stunning! I already know it will play wonderfully, so good score! Just when I thought I was GAS free...

Looks like we need to go dark for a while. Peavey prices on the GC used site are creeping up, a lot. There are a few US Millenniums that are over $500, and there is even a T-40 they have listed for $700!! I know it's hard, but we need to stop buying them for a while so demand goes back down, and hopefully we can get some nice Peaveys for cheap again. Ah, the good old days!

It had to happen eventually. I think I paid about $350 for my T-40. Black on Black with rosewood fingerboard. Knowing what I know now, I'd pay $700 for a bass this good
can anyone help me with an estimate? i was looking to get a "cheap" (read: inexpensive) p-bass . . . and i found a late 80s peavy fury on the local CL
the guy is asking $120, but it has a hipshot drop d tuner on it . . .
anyone know what one of these is worth / what to look for? ideally i'd like something solid / well made like this for no more than $75 . . . i have some labellas that would sound good on a P, and might do a cheap pickup later. just want something to practice on and not have to worry about.
ALSO: anyone know what body wood this would have if it's MIA in the late 80s?

$120 for a Fury in good shape with a D-tuner is real good.
I don't know the exact year, but sometime in the 80's, the Fury went from a slanted SF pickup with a thinner type neck (1 1/2" at the nut) to a Split-P with a thicker (typical P-bass) neck (1 5/8", I think).
My '83 is a slanted SF and my '90 is a split-P. Both are great and quite different, and I would pay way more than $120 for either.
More than likely, the body is made of Alder.
There are some real smart Peavey guru's that read this thread...they'll correct me if I wrote anything wrong and they can probably provide better insight for you regarding the Fury.

And, no, I don't think the neck or pick guard are interchangeable with Fender parts. But, don't make the mistake of assuming it's not as good as Fender just because it's a lot less expensive. Judge with your ears and hands.

Agreed that it's a great deal at $120. In fact, you'd be hard pressed to find a bass made that well for double that price.
If the bass is a solid color it may be poplar. Either way it is a good tonewood. The pickups in USA Furys are made with alnico magnets and usually sound as good as if not better than USA Fender precision pickups. $120 is a great deal on a USA Fury.
thanks guys! i'm still on the fence about this . . . do you think there is any room on it for me at $110 to sell it at a profit down the road if i am not happy with the sound of a p (i'm really a jazz guy)?

We're talking about a $120 bass here. You probably lost more selling that Fender.
Providing the bass isn't modified or beat up, and the D-tuner was properly instsalled, you should be able to make your money back if you sell it.

yeah i guess you're right . . . also, i broke dead even on the fender

this little thing is growing on me for a "cheap" second bass . . . excited about the split-p (only other bass for the past 5 years has been a jazz), low action, and ability to carry this thing around and not worry about it too much . . .
i'll try to post some pics tomorrow, and that hipshot detuner will hopefully ensure a little bit of profit when it comes time to sell!

Reading the overwhelming consensus of opinion regarding the incredible value of a Peavey bass for a mere $120.00 begs the question, "Is this a great country or what?"
Personally, I'm really enjoying the learning curve associated with the various versions of the Foundation, which sorta remind me of 1960's era Chevys. They're fun to work on, they look good, they can take a beating, and they kick ass when it counts. This particular find was a classic "project"--the seller's pics conveniently masked its state of disrepair. Crudely stripped of any paint and short a few integral pieces of metal, it was baptism time when bathed in Earl Scheib "yellow sunshine" paint. The super ferrites are really something and for good measure, I'm experimenting with a Bad-Ass II bridge. Could be a keeper.....
