Compared to other basses I've owned, the frets on my Fury make a very different noise when they come into contact with the strings. It's pretty loud and just has a different timbre to it. Are they made of a different material than more recent basses? Also, the sides of the frets (over the fingerboard, not at the edges of the neck) don't seem to be as rounded as those on other basses I have owned in past. They're pretty much flat across the top and have a 90 degree angle dropping down to the fretboard. I'm asking these questions because I've ended up putting flats on it just to keep the noise down. I have also had to raise the action a bit more than I would like. Maybe I just need to have it professionally set up? I've always done my own set ups, but this bass just seems to be more picky. I don't have a Fury, nor am I a luthier. I do have two USA Peavey basses and owned a third. All of them have/had "standard" frets. My guess is that your frets have been worn and subsequently leveled, which left them looking and playing a little differently. The leveling may or may not have been a pro job. You might want to talk to a luthier locally and see what he or she would charge to get them fixed (crowned?). I would guess it would be $40 or so.

Now that I'm home I took another look at the frets. They aren't as flat as I made them out to be in my previous post. There is some bevel or crown to them, but not as much as most other bases I've noticed. The frets seem a bit thinner than other bases I've owned (then again, the neck is pretty narrow) and they have a lighter, more reflective sheen to them.

I'm hoping some of our resident Peavey gurus can help me. Is there an easy way to tell whether a Dyna Unity bass is Koa or Maple/Poplar?

I believe that on the regular Unity basses, the Koa came with gold hardware, but so did the Dyna Unity LTD.

I know the easy answer is, "It looks like Koa!", but I don't know my woods that well... :hmm:

Unfortunately, I don't have a picture to post for you guys to ID right now.

The one thing that sets Koa apart for me is the way it looks outdoors.
Indoors, it looks like Walnut (beautiful, but sort of dull), but outside it almost glows with a golden hue.

Another unicorn tear (or whatever) bass? Peavey seems to have a bunch of those! Other company's may as well, but I don't dig into them much.

Come to think of it, is it a Peavey? I know Bromberg supposedly worked with US Masters on his sig bass, but I don't think it ever came to fruition.

1992 by the serial # list that's been on the net.

To the best of my knowledge all TL-6s shipped from the factory with the P type pickups. They are split coil humbuckers. I have personally seen one that was modified to have a Bartolini soapbar in the bridge position and seen a pic of one other.

Thank you for the info I appreciate it! Any thoughts on resale value I have seen a few on eBay (unsold) but not sure of real world pricing on them
