The neck on the totally abused '79 T-40 I recently aquired was cracked. Couldn't see it when I got it. Clamped the peghead in a soft jaw vice and only got the crack to open about .010" and it gave no sign of wanting to split farther. Drilled holes for 3/"16" dowels, spread the crack, forced in as much glue as I could, put in the dowels and clamped it. Put on a little Tru Oil for color. As beat up as the neck is, this may be as finished as it gets so it remains in character.
FWIW, all the bridge saddles were beyond redemption. All the screws were corroded in place and had to cut the intonation screws to get the saddles off.

So looks like I'll be grabbing a mint-condition US bolt 5'er at the end of the month, for $675. It's Metallic Blue, same as my car drool
, and I was wondering how rare these things are. Supposedly they were only made for a few years, and I've maybe seen one other for sale (think it was Ebay). Also, how do they sound compared to the maple necks? I prefer bolt-necks, and I'm guessing a walnut neck is going to be darker than a maple one, but who knows...either way, I'm stoked!

Latest acquisition. 1989 Sunburst Fury, the P Bass killer. Spent the day taking it apart to see if anything squirrely had happened to it in the last 27 years and did my new bass routine. Sprayed the pots, lubed the TR nut and tilt screw. TR nut really needed it. This is another one where I couldn't believe how clean and well set up it was and it's definitely been played. Changed the hardware to black from chrome and strung it BEAD. The neck is as good as I've had my hands on. It's not as pencil slim as my '87 or '98. Thicker profile and more round on the back like the first model with the T-20 pickup but with a 1 1/2" topnut. Sounds and plays better than it looks. One small chip in the front of the lower cutout.

Been spending some time with my TL-6 getting more used to it. Switched to my Pedulla MVP5 for a while. Still no comparison but the TL-6 is a great bass nonetheless.

I've just stumbled across another "T"series Peavey. Has anyone seen a WHITE T45 before?
I'll be picking it up early next week. I think I've got all the missing parts. I'm not happy about the crack forming at the base of the neck. The hardware all looks clean in the pic. I haven't seen this in person yet, though. I'm getting a good deal. Enough so that the parts on it alone are worth more than my investment. I do hope to keep it as a complete bass, and a stablemate to my 'burst T45.

T-20. Had it since high school- original owner. Still handing out numbers?
Charley- Yeah, I know! If I didn't already own a T40 in that same color white, I would have to believe that it's a repaint. I guess I won't really know until I check it out in person. If it does turn out to be an alder or poplar painted body that has been resprayed, then that pretty much leaves me open to refinish it in almost any of the correct colors. I'm hoping that it's originally white, though!
The T-45 was offered in Black, White, Sunburst, Blood Red and Royal Burgundy. $424.50 with maple neck, $449.50 with rosewood.
This is from Willie Moseley's book "Peavey Guitars". Good book. I recommend it.
