Ok all you US Peavey experts! I picked up a 1984 Foundation today - it looks to be in pretty good shape, but the neck is the two piece maple (1/2 and 1/2 with a glue joint down the middle). I got it for a song - $75 - so I figured I could part it out if it has major issues. Got it home and loosened the strings - now I see there is a 1/2" long narrow split at that joint, towards the 'volute' area. The neck had a LOT of relief in it when I picked it up. Wondering if anyone else has run into this? I'm wondering about running some thin wood glue in the crack, them
lightly clamping the sides of the neck/fretboard. Has anyone tried this ? I don't know yet if the truss rod is operational. The neck does not appear to my inexperienced eyes to be warped. Would I maybe be better off parting the bass out? Has all original tuners , USA stamped Super Ferrites, triangle string tree, metal P stamped knobs, etc. it's the Aztec gold colors- so it's ugly in a very vintage cool way. Hoping I can salvage! Thanks in advance!!!

Pics will help in determining whether it is rescuable or not. My first thought is "yes"

Well I called Peavey CS yesterday - they no longer have the 5/16 truss rod tool - the lady directed me to allparts - has anyone here bought that wrench, and did it work? I've already tried a 1/4" drive, 5/16 socket on the Foundation and it wouldn't get down on to the nut. I will be looking for a thinner wall socket too. Just hoping to hear if the allparts wrench works before I spend $15 plus shipping on it! Thanks!

Talking about gold hardware,I have some original gold tuners,off a Peavey Dyna Bass. The body of the tuners still look decent,but the grab part of them need to be replaced,if they can be replaced? If anyone would be interested. They have a set screw in the top,so they could be removed. Just checking to see if anyone was looking for them. PM me if interested. Thanks!

Ok here is my 1984 Foundation in Aztec Gold ( I think that's the name of the color). A few posts earlier I noted it had a small crack in the back of the neck - well I worked some Titebond III wood glue in there and gave the truss rod nut a shot or two of PB Blaster ( WD -40 on steroids) while waiting for mr 5/16 truss rod wrench to come in (Grover - worked perfectly). Took the tuners and bridge off, cleaned it all up, oiled the neck, and strung it up with new D'Addario rounds. When I got the bass there was so much relief in the neck it wasn't playable. Between that and the crack, I figured I would be parting it out. But over the course of the day today, I put probably 3/4-1 full turn on the truss rod - adjusted the micro- tilt, and it is ultra stable and playing very nicely! I need to raise the bridge saddles a touch and adjust the intonation, then maybe lay the neck back just a little more with the micro-tilt. Right now it's very playable and wow what a fast neck! ( I'm picky, I like really low action) I don't have a bass amp at home right now - they live at rehearsal - so I plugged it into one of my 12" powered mains just to see if the electronics worked. Not a crackle, pop, or hum - dead quiet and even direct into a PA speaker it sounded great - the super Ferrites are awesome!

Not bad for $75 and a little elbow grease. It has body dings and a couple neck and one headstock dent, but overall not terrible - all parts are original and that's pretty cool for a 32 year old bass!!! Only missing the truss rod cover. Oh yeah - it's light! Weighs about the same as my Ibby SR500 - amazing considering the solid hardware.

but be honest - Aztec gold is probably one of the uglier colors ever put on a bass, right? I will have to own and rock the vintage funkiness of this thing....
