On July 5th 2017 I put my 2014 Am.Std Precision in it's case, as I had just acquired my first Peavey Foundation bass a 1992 model, it was battered and worn but it did have the Super Ferrite pickups. Which 7 months later gave way to a much better 1986 Black Foundation with a matching headstock and I never looked back. I even used the headstock decal of the '86 for my Avatar picture, so in 1 year I have just used 2 basses but both Peavey Foundation's I really like the sound of the Super Ferrite pickups, and the build fit & finish and feel of the '86 neck was worth the price I paid for it.
I've turned into a Foundation fanboy & can't see that changing anytime soon

Nice pair, what does the mini switch do? Correct it is a series/parallel switch that the previous owner had installed, I just leave it in the normal posistion.
Yeah, I considered installing a series/parallel switch in my Foundation, as I do with all my Fender Jazz Basses - but decided against it, because I think the Foundation's SF pickups are strong enough that it wouldn't work all that well, and just isn't needed...
How would you describe the balance situation between the two basses? The upper horn on the ‘92 appears to extend to the 12th fret whereas on the ‘86 the upper horn extends to the 13th fret. For that final body style they shifted everything rearward, the bridge and the neck pocket. I think it was very likely done because of the slimmed down and lightened body....and for the reason you brought up to keep a good balance. I have versions of both body types and there is actually a very minor tendency for neck dive on the newer body style compared to the old. But very similar and very minor. It does show that Peavey was thinking in the right way at the time.

Pretty much how Runnerman explained it the '92 is lighter, but balance wise both similar. I haven't played the '92 since February, allround I just prefer the '86 more
.Same here the SF pickups need nothing else added to them, hence why my switch has never moved

When I got my 84 Foundation, the bridge pickup volume pot was rather sketchy and needed replacement. I took the opportunity to replace it with a push/pull pot so I could get series/parallel operation of the pickups. It's a great sound in series, but I rarely use it.
Just bought this months Bass Guitar Magazine and there on page 16, is this 29 years old beauty and still a worthy instrument.
I take issue with the "growly midrange" & "thunderous bottom end" comment.

Isn't it interesting how sometimes the simplest basses sound the best, and some of the fanciest basses can sound ...just okay.
