U.S. Peavey Club

Actually all Ive ever experienced is passive basses. My Dyna and the Fender Cowpoke are the first basses Ive ever had that took a battery persay...I am neither here nor there with them to be honest and at least with regards to the Dyna, its an additional headache when something goes wrong...

I don't even remember who the club founder is at this point. Mmmmm We need to take care of new members but I am not sure the procedures for it is if the OP doesn't keep up with it. I know someone who knows should be able to help you. ^_^

BTW...has anyone replaced the foam inside their old Peavey bomb-proof molded cases yet? If so, what material did you use?

I need to do this on a few that have disintegrated to the point they are unusable. That foam turns into nasty goo in hot weather, really messy stuff. TIA

That really was a great case! All of mine were the 'deluxe' version that was plush lined, so the foam was never an issue. The foam was probably a closed cell foam, like neoprene...a good choice. Over time, the stuff breaks down-I have heard that ozone is a culprit-losing its sponginess and falling apart into a sticky mess. I'd clean it out entirely and replace with some new neoprene or high density upholstery foam and you should be good to go.

Hey Starscream I more than keep up with the two clubs I have started here on Talk Bass.I can't believe I am even having to defend myself on this issue.First off the procedure is ,if anyone wants a number,I ask that you pm me for one.Second I check all posts for the clubs twice a day.But I am human and this particular person just slipped my eyes.So before you bash me or try to ready me for a pee pee smack from an administrator,maybe you should consider that we are all HUMAN and sometimes we slip up.:eyebrow::eyebrow::scowl: Joe

:( I am so sorry. I really didn't mean to upset you with my post. I didn't mean to make you defend yourself. I honestly thought you were busy is all. I honestly didn't mean anything mean by it. I sincerely apologize. :( If you want to remove me from the club, I will understand. I am very sorry :crying:

I think the "deluxe" cases were for the painted ones and the ones with foam were for the natural basses. I discovered this the hard way, when I put my black Foundation S in the foam case and found later that the foam had melted the finish on the back of the bass. What a mess. Let that be a cautionary tale for those of you with multiple Peaveys.

I will be lining the case with some sort of fabric, and I have no idea what I'm going to do with the finish on the Foundation.

Sounds like it's time for a custom finish or exotic paint job!!!

Yeah, I'm thinking fabric. I just wanna make sure it's not gonna react with the finish when I'm not looking. Maybe some indoor/outdoor carpet type stuff?

Too bad it melted your paint, bummer. That has'nt happened to me yet, but I've spent hours removing stubborn black goo with naptha, rubbing alchahol, even Windex at times.

Laughable, a couple weeks ago I bought a Foundation "S", with bomb case. By the time it arrived, the heat had totally melted all the foam. The whole bass was caked with tarry goop.

I spent 2 hours cleaning it, then discovered the neck was split on the back seam, so I had to return it anyway. I shoulda charged the dude for the cleanup and string change!

What I've done with a lot of my cases is replace the rotting foam with foam-backed plush carpeting. Just try to match the overall thickness of the new stuff to the thickness of the original foam, if there's any left intact to measure. The plush carpet surface is in contact with the finish, not the backing, so it should reduce the finish melting phenomenon. Since I had several to re-do, I made cardboard templates of the carpeted areas. The shape of the body cavity changed over time as it became necessary to fit more models in the same basic case, so I have a couple of different ones.

hmm, this has me concerned. I just purchased a Cirrus that is in perfect condition but the case has damage where the horns of the bass have poked through the fabric of the case exposing the foam underneath. Is this a potential hazzard to the finish of my bass? Thanks in advance for your help.

A black Foundation!!!!!! :( oh man, the only thing I could suggest is getting it refinished.

I have a case for my T40 (Thanks to a TBer ^_^) and my Foundation5 came with one. Both have that brownish velvet lining. Im ok with those? I just wanna double check cause I live in the south...hot and humid most of the time. The T40 is chillin in its case for a change right now and the Dyna is laying low in the Foundation5s case till it goes to the shop. OF course they are both inside where its cooler (Id never store a bass outside!!).

Also, and not trying to change the subject, keep the case topic going; my 5er did something really weird last night... I don't know if it was me, the new strings, the bass or all three of us...

I had a set of D'Addario EXL160-5 Medium Gauge (.050-.135) nickle wound round wounds for my 5er. I take the old strings off the Foundation, clean it up and start putting on the new strings. Now I have not done this much but I do, do it correctly but as I start to put the strings on, it dawns on me that I got long scale and... I have no wire cutters on hand readily...mmmm... ok uhm...lets see how this goes. Nice and neat wind and wind and wind..everything fits and the strings are going on great. I get to the D (the black one..these are color coated though it was easy to see which string was which by the gauge)..its got the longest way to go and its the shortest string I got... O_O It takes 4 tries to get it to 'stay' and the only way it would was when I folded the tip of the string onto itself about half an inch to go down the guide hole. Now when I'm done Ive only got like 3 winds of it on the machine head. Ok no biggie thats fine...I put the G on and go to online tuner to tune it...I noticed tension in the D which makes no sense and then BAM, it snapped.... first bass string Ive ever broken. The string was not twisted, it /looked/ fine -- it was just shorter then the rest...

Ok my questions...is there something with that machine head? Was there something with that string? (duh LOL)...and was it really stupid that I loaded them up on my bass without cutting them down first? They are sitting fine (I was very neat) and the ones remaining tuned up and feel just fine *shrug*....

And oOOOOOoooooo I tested out the T40 with the Dyna strings tonight...BOOYAH!!! Holyl crap what a difference. Of course walking UP HILL with that beast in its case was a pain literally by the time I got to my guiarist's house...sheesh...no, it wasnt uphill walking home ... but it was still a pain coming back too. LOL

Ran the T40 through my Digitech RP80 (yea thats for guitar but my BP80 is still on layaway) settled on a nice distortion and wowser, what a sweet, sweet monster... I am in love all over again with my T40 -not that I was ever out of love with it mind you. ^_^

I was told by the seller of the Dyna that the strings were Peavey round wounds. I'm not sure the gauge but they are pretty light compared to what I usually run. Great strings I must say!!

Here's my early '85 Foundation. I sanded the gloss off the back of the neck and strung her with TI flats. It plays like a dream and sounds fantastic. Pure and punchy, never boomy or harsh. And the color is a chick magnet!

I had a sunburst '84 which I bought brand new and foolishly sold a few years back. Thanks to Dr. Cheese, I'm eligible for the club again. Gimme a number, please!
