I never really understood EQ'ing an amp either until I read about boosting mids. The idea is to boost your mids and then adjust bass and treble to taste.

I am breaking out the T40 to hook up to it in a little bit to work with it and I will definitely try what you suggest. Oh yes, My Foundatioons are every bit as good as that Fender and my Dyna is one of my 'go to' basses so dare I say that when its all said and done, I'd pick up the Dyna before that Jazz. I think Im just more enamored with it because its a /Fender/ Jazz even if I have the same thing in a larger size through Squier.
Its also the first ever Fender Jazz I have ever touched or played. Its all an issue of name and prestige when its said and done Im sure...
And that right there is no reason to get it. Yes it is going to take me a while to set my sound to it I can see that. The Crate BX80 I had it took a while to get /my/ tone out of it. It did alright for a guitar amp but the minute I switched over to Monster bass cables it said 'screw this' LOL and it was pretty useless. (I passed it onto my guitarist and what a saga that turned into. Lets just say he still hasn't paid me off for it and in the meantime he pawned it and LOST the pawn so its out there on the floor for sale now and technically its still MY property.....that 'boy' (only thing I can call him at this point) better be lucky I only use the law as a last resort or hed be in some serious trouble right now..as it is he left some $400+ effects pedal/box here last time we practiced and mmmmm, its sitting on my dresser now with my name all over it if he doesn't cough up the money he owes me...)
It is a beast to move. But my particular 210 has detachable wheels so once myself and a neighbor got it out of my car (>_<) , I could just roll it around. ^_^ I was talking to a friend of mine on the phone earlier and I mentioned the amp I got and how heavy it was. I said I was going to hook up the T40 to it today and he said the boat anchor (T40) just got the boat now....LOL!

I'll eventually get the Traynor 115 extension cab for it. Then I'll get all 400w out of it.

Deep down I have always wanted a Peavey amp. Don't get me wrong, that SWR LA15 was sweet as all get out, but it just wasn't going to be able to do what I wanted. I wanted something I could add to and build up. The SWR wasn't it..though I did get a nice SWR sticker before I left...LOL I got some other cool swag with it too. I doubt the 15" Peavey cab is still available and that sucks cause now I have an amp to take it. Ahh well Im almost broke now anyway.
And sadly I got sidetracked with some housework and didn't get to playing with the amp. Some of my chores were a couple days behind. I've had the most horrible past few days, and it all came to a head when my precious bird, my buddy, my bestest friend, but in a feather suit, suddenly up and died in my arms.
It was so unexpected and so sudden and it was the absolute last thing I needed with everything else that was going on. And no, I did not handle it well. Getting the deal I got on this amp was a nice little bright spot to a reeeeelllllyyyy crappy 7 days. I was reading some reviews on harmony central about this amp. Someone commented that its only 300 watts with a cab plugged in and by itself its like 210 or something...either way its still the most powerful amp Ive ever owned and if I end up having to evacuate from a hurricane next year, I certainly won't leave it behind!!!!
When I finally get set up to take pics of the Yammy, and more pics of my 5er for sale downstairs, I have to set this thing up with my T40 sitting next to it for a shot.
That's terrible news about your pet bird. I'm sorry. Losing a pet who is a close friend is really hard. It's happened for me (with a dog).
I have other more expensive amp/cab gear, but I keep my old Peavey Combo with a Black Widow 15 at home for practice, and I still love the tone I get out of it as much as anything. Congratulations on your new amp !!

Starscream - how heavy is your T-40? I've always wanted one but the weight just sounds enormous! Is it a well-balance heaviness?
I just got a T40 tonight off of CL and I don't see what the big fuss about weight is... Sure it isn't light, but it doesn't seem obnoxiously heavy either. I am guessing mine is probably only 11-12lbs or so. I was expecting a 16lb monster!

Its so hard not having him around. I had him for only 4 years. He would sit on my laptop screen edge and watch me surf. Every time I came in with something to eat he'd stop what he was doing and run over to me for some. He would insist on sitting on my left forearm and settling down for a nap while I was trying to type LOL I could tell him to go back to his pen and he would. I could tell him to 'come here' and he would. He was incredible and I could go on forever listing examples of his interaction with me and his intelligence. His name was Rudy. He was not your typically seen 'pet' bird though...he was a Serama rooster.
He was a 'house chicken' and one of the most intelligent animals I've ever had the privilege of knowing. Believe it or not but on some levels chickens have been proven as intelligent as primates. VERY interactive with a person as well, if the person just gives them a chance. He was like a little person in a feather suit and the way he went out was so sudden and violent -- in my arms with me helpless and he cried when he went.....this is hard.... And you have my condolences with you and your dog. Its so hard loosing a pet. Some people just don't get how they become part of the family. It hurts just as bad when loosing a close pet as it does a person...Thanks. I know Im going to love it! I am a bit embarrassed though; with my previous amp only my immediate neighbors could hear me play. It was a neighbor a few doors down that helped me get the amp out and set up and then before she left she said she was looking forward to hearing me play finally as she had heard about my playing
eek...so yea... I plug in and sound like an in time mudslide... I talked to her later on and she just looking at me like 'I thought you could play...' I was like 'Uhm...uhm...it wasn't me...I swear LOL' Shes like 'Well at least you have rhythm and timing..' *facpalm*...gee..thanks and I know my face is turning red at this point. I was so embarrassed....the way I play I really need a clear, higher 'new string' sound with serious bass undertones so nothing I played with the mids set so wrong and me floundering with them sounded like anything but..mud :scowl:Heres the breakdown on T40 tonnage. I have a good friend who was a professional accordion player. He played the large standard sized accordion so he knows what a heavy instrument is about. As I was waiting for my T40 to come in I was talking about the weight and he was not impressed in the slightest (because of what he played for 30 years)... I got the beast in, went to his house and handed it to him.. He was like
and nearly dropped it. He really thought I was full of it about the weight. He also said that 'Tree Trunk' (as he calls it) was comparable to his accordion. He was stunned. They are heavy but they are well balanced, no neck dive (we wont talk about my franken40 -- my first T40 had a luthiers nightmare of a neck customizing and it neck dove like mad and I didn't know any better at the time, and thought they were all like that...) ...my '85 sits perfectly straight across me. I don't have to hold the neck up in any way with fret hand when I play.
Now the weight I am talking about only concerns the natural wood and stained ones as I mentioned earlier. The solid colored T40s used a different type of wood since woodgrain was not a concern. THOSE are lighter. Those as far as I know come in around 11-12 pounds. So if you are looking for a T40 depending on the color/finish will depend on just how much T40 tonnage you end up with.
I would be willing to guess yours is a solid colored one? And you got a pic? ^_^ We all love looking at T40s...well at least I do
I would grab one now if possible. Late last year their prices were something sane. And then after the first of the year they started climbing in price and it wasn't that uncommon to see one going for $400+ on the Bay but I have noticed that since our economy is flipping the freak out, they are coming back down in price again. And if you look hard enough you can find them mega cheap still. I did fair on mine. An '85 dark Tobacco burst/maple no case, needs a new nut but is playable as is...with some play wear on the back edge, $335 to my door. And thanks to a wonderful TBer I got a case for it.

Every time I look at T-40's I see them going for a bit over $300. There's a minty one on TB right now for $350 shipped in HS case. I love how they sound but 12 - 13 lbs sounds too heavy for me. I might just go with a Foundation.
I've got this Millennium Plus 5 coming to me in about a week and a half, and I'm sure it weighs in at around 9 lbs:
9 lbs is more up my alley for sure.
I dont recall the millennium5 I almost bought last year weighing that much to be honest. I am sure someone who owns one can say better then my one time with one a year ago. And I have nerve damage in my lower back and problems with the top of my shoulder bearing weight from a kid injury so me standing up and playing my T40 for more then about 45 minutes is not an option really. I went through 3 straps before I found one that helped the best. The 4.5 inch padded leather Levy 'bass strap'. It doesn't do a bad job but I will have to put a pad under it where it rests across my shoulder because of what I did to it when I was kid. I love my T40...dunno but for me at least, its worth the hassle just so I can have one again and play it. I know one funny thing, once I strap that monster on its a mutha to get off LOL but theres more spring to my step when I can finally get it off me. j/k LOL

You know what? I'm wrong about the weight. The Millennium Plus 5 I used to own was 8.5 lbs and the Plus 4 I used to own was right around 8 lbs.
I tell you though, one of the things about a T40 IS its weight. The tonnage just adds to the mystic about them I think. I can't imagine a T40 light. It just wouldn't be the same IMO. ^^
