Thanks about the Avatar. Yup, someone's gonig to get a sweet bass in that Peavey.

The Millennium Plus 5 will be the third Peavey I've owned. I bought my first, a Millennium Plus 4 J/J, when I found myself bassless with $400. It had all the features I could ask for - except that it was a Peavey. I was still brainwashed into thinking that Peavey meant crap but I was in for a surprise! I sold that one in pursuit of a Millennium Plus 5 which I got and then stupidly sold. Now I'm back and happy to be a Peavey man again.

I think it's the bargain hunter in me but I love the fact that I can find USA made basses, in excellent condition, for less than a MIM Fender Jazz, all because Peavey has a lousy marketing department and the resale value is so low. I'll bet that P/J forum is as good as any MIA Fender was before they started upgrading their hardware. I keep hearing how the Super Ferrite loaded Foundation basses are as good as MIA fender Jazzes and I always see them going for less than $300.

I have a plan...

Once I have my Millennium Plus 5 I'll have a great bass to go with my already great Yorkville/Traynor XS400T 400w 210 combo. I'm going to get a Sansamp Bass VT so my 210 can sound SVTish and then I want to start collecting vintage Peavey's. I want a T-40 first and then a Foundation. Maybe throw in a Forum for good measure.

I remember when I saw my first Peavey bass. It was my first T40. I knew a whole lot less about different bass companies and amp companies etc, than I do now but even then I knew Peavey was amps not guitars. I thought it was fluke but it was huge, huge pups, knobs and switches everywhere, huge chrome bridge.. I was dazzled by the looks of it I think and had to have it.

When I played that Millennium5 last year I was like 'Peavey is still making basses?' LOL I had no clue, then I got my neighbors Foundation...joined here and the rest is history. I'm proud to be a Peavey NUT. :p As of right now I have 5 Peaveys and my rig is all Peavey...wheeee....when Im done though its only going to be 3 Peavey basses and that awesome Peavey rig... well thats the game plan at any rate...

I'm with you about being a Peavey nut - that's where I'm at now, with the basses anyway. I just wish I had an extra $600 right now - there's a minty Foundation for $250 and a minty T-40 for $350 on TB right now.

I'm going to stick with my amp and eventually stick a Traynor 115 cab under it. It doesn't really need it 'cause those 10's handle the low B no problem, but I'd get all 400w with the extension cab.

Thats a sweet looking pair of Peaveys there. ^^ Hehe I know that black widow cab I got is just wicked. My Peavey amp was righteous on its own but when I added that cab. Yeabuddy LOL Have you had any Peavey amps? These are my first and Im so glad I finally took the plunge and tried them -- I had wanted to for a while and was not disappointed in the slightest.

I know my 'new' Foundation and my Dynabass are so close to being identical its not even funny. But to me that actually makes them even cooler. ^_^ ... Im a sucker for a black and rosewood bass. LOL I have seen other foundations that burnt looking burst and they are so pretty as well but Im all in love with my black/rosewood monster. ^_^ Oh that T40 is the same as mine, cept mines a darker burst. It looks really cool. I think. ^_^

The Foundation (mine is a '93) is every bit the bass of the Jazz and better. I've found the Super Ferrites to have more output than the stock MIA Jazz pups, that being the major difference in the pickup sound. But I also think the Super Ferrites are "more present" across the tonal spectrum, if that makes sense. New strings sound older on the Jazz and old strings sound newer on the Foundation.

Construction-wise I would say there is no significant difference between the instruments in terms of build quality, but for me I prefer the more Precision-like shape (actually Fender Zone Bass-like shape) of the Foundation and it dispenses with the fugly Jazz pickguard too.

Newer Fender Jazzes can be got with a satin neck finish though so that is one big plus for the Fender since the gloss finish on the Foundations can get a little sticky, though no where nearly as bad as the "gripper gloss" on the Fender Geddy Lee (a bass that's pickups are really weak).

I actually think to get a Fender that sounds better than a Foundation you have to move all the way up to a MIA Active Deluxe Jazz, but at that point a Peavey fan should just get a JJ Millennium.

I'm with you on the body shape - Jazz bass bodies are just awkward to me. #000 steel wool takes care of glossy neck issues so that's not a problem. A Foundation is definitely in my future then, thanks!

Some guy is selling a Peavey Dynabass for $100. He says the bass is in good condition and I've asked him for more better pics than the one tiny he posted on his ad. It looks like it's got the super ferrite pups.

Is this price too good to be true? Does he just not know what he's doing?

Hehe I actually don't know much about those Peaveys. Its a nice one but I don't care for the color :p I learned my lesson about not liking the color of a bass. No matter how good the bass is, if the color is wrong nothing can make up for it -- least for me. Besides, my '85 Foundation, '85 T40 and '87 Dynabass are Da Bomb(s). My Peaveyness is well satisfied with those monsters and then some...though I wish I had snagged that burst TL5 that was up on the bay earlier this year... :p

Man.....I just had to look at Peaveys on the bay now.....theres a couple of Foundation 5s up peeps, both ending pretty soon....theres also a black and maple T40 and someone here recently said they were looking for a black and maple T40...that one ends today or tomorrow and its not too pricey /yet/.
