I just came across a T-45 at Sam Ash. They want $299 which I think is a little high but I might talk them down. But I had a question I was hoping someone could answer. When I played the bass it seemed to have a huge amount of bass on the lower strings, and a huge amount of treble on the higher strings. No matter how I adjusted the knobs I couldn't find a good blended tone. I am tempted to make an offer, but want to know if this is common. I left wondering if I could just put a two band eq in to help tweak the tone. Kind of thought it might create a budget Stingray with that huge humbucker. Has anybody tried anything like this?

Consider price per pound and the fact that you'll have an extra fret over a T-40 :)

I wouldn't put much faith in the setup at the store. Pickup adjustment is critical, also a new set of strings can work wonders.

Beautiful family there CB! That Cirrus is hot. I have to get a pic of my Cirrus 6 and B-quad 4 at some point. I almost got a matching fretless 6, but just couldn't swing the cash at the time. I will say that pretty much all my other basses stay in the closet since the Cirrus came along. This bass won't be going anywhere anytime soon!:cool:

Got a new Peavey to add here in my club membership and its not a bass.......

I went to pay off my SWR LA15 and I wasn't looking forward to it. I had a chance at a decent Peavey 15" speaker cab -- a black widow to add to the amp and then found out the LA15 didn't have a jack for it..so I had to let it go....then I did some more looking and realized the LA15 was only 100 watts and I wanted 150 watts min...thats what I get for not doing my research before I commit to buy.

Anyway, I get to the shop and I tell the sales rep, who is fast becoming a good friend of mine, that I really can't use that amp but I don't want to cancel the lay away cause I know he gets commission on it. I also still need an amp, what can we do? So we start looking at the amps in the bass section of the store and there was this rather imposing Peavey amp that has been there since at least January of this year. I glance at it like I always do when Im in there, but just the look of it tells me I won't have the money for it which is why Ive never asked about it before, but I ask this time for the hell of it. He looks at the tag and says its used and its like around $800. I tell him I can't do it , but its the only amp they have I really like and its fast becoming apparent that Im stuck with the SWR... I mention that I am a Peavey NUT and that amp would be sweet -- and my first Peavey amp. He suddenly yanks the price tag off and says 'Let me talk to the big guy..this things been here for the better part of a year...everyone wants it but no one will cough up the dough or they are too afraid to ask the price....we got to move this out..'

He comes back 20 minutes later in shock then he grins like a fool and goes 'Hows $299 grab you?' Im like, 'Dude, thats what Im paying for the SWR....' He nods and grins more, 'Perfect ain't it?'

So for $299 I got a:

This thing is wild LOL and 300 watts O_O holy ****!!! Its in really good shape cosmetically. It only has a bit of a scuff on one small section of the tolex (is that what you call it?) that rubbed the black paint off and one of the dials is missing the knob cover. Other than that its great.

I am really amp stupid but I guess I didn't do to bad, did I? He said I should never need another amp LOL This thing is great. I /am/ though having one small prob with it. I am thinking since its been sitting there for almost a year and unused I might need to take some contact spray to it or something. I am having a bit of a time trying to adjust that muffled bass tone out of it. I tend to like a deep but crisp sound. Kind of high but low at the same time if that makes any sense. I plugged in that little pearl white Fender Jazz I like so much thats STILL THERE!!!! to test it and he adjusted it where it had that sound but when I got it home and was playing around with it I can't seem to get it out of the muffled bass tone. And I chord on a bass and it comes out like mud right now on it...its got to me not the amp but just in case it is the amp, what should I look for to try and stop the mud/bass sound? Would getting in there and spraying it with some contact spray to clean it up work? Or did something blow on it on the way home with it? It sounded awesome in the store LOL

Oh yea a manual would help too Im sure. :p

Spectacular!!

Two months ago I bought a used 400w Yorkville 210 combo amp that originally cost $869.

Don't know the type of amp you are speaking of but I gather you got one heck of deal on it too. ^_^

Its a shame that sweet pearl white Jazz is still there. The more I play it the more its 'its too small for me' issue seems less and less. I made an off comment about wanting the Jazz and too bad we couldn't work something out. Unfortunately its like $1600 or something and theres no way I could pay it out in 3 months. He said they couldn't work it out past that but didn't seem that firm about it. Maybe I will hit them up around xmas about it....but I seriously don't need it so Im probably just talking to hear myself talk there if that makes any sense. :p

Im going to check out Peaveys site for a manual for the amp and play around with it tomorrow (low volume if I can manage it BWhahaha *ahem*) and try to learn how to adjust it to get the crisp highs back in it that he was getting that I can't seem to for nothing...man there are more dials and buttons and a button and dial in the back and Im such an idiot with electronic stuff...wheeee.... I hope its designed dummy proof -- at least until I learn its controls....wait, its a Peavey, it can take me learning all about it through trial and error I think. ^_^

My guess is you have too much low-mid mixed in. This will muddy up the sound quite a bit. I was looking at the combo115 on the Peavey website. I think it is the same amp with different speakers. If you have the same graphic eq I would suggest bringing the 100 and 250 sliders down to 0, (this is flat no boost or cut) and then tweeking it from there.

Honestly your Foundation or Dyna-bass are probably every bit as good as the Fender you're looking at. I've owned both USA Fenders and USA Peavey for many years.

That's a really nice combo you got there. The salesman is right, you'll probably never need anything else. I use a Peavey amp also. As for the tone, in my experience it takes months to "dial in" a tone you like from a new amp. Keep messing with the EQ, play with the knob for the tweeter on the back. Congrats, you done good. That amp has a "graphic" EQ - I am not a fan of those; start with everything flat and work from there. Also, keep in mind the tone that sounds good when you're practicing on your own may not necessarily sound good with a band, and vise versa.

I don't envy you moving that combo. It's got to weigh 75 lbs.
