Yup, I researched it when looking to buy. I’m not sure though if Peavey advertised it as a walnut finish or if one guy said “that looks like walnut, I’m advertising it as walnut” and other people said “so that’s what mine is”. Seems . . . odd to advertise a walnut finish on mahogany given the respective costs, but I really like it best of all the Patriot finishes I’ve seen. I like it better than most natural mahogany finishes too, and I do like natural mahogany finishes. The walnut finish you refer to is a mahogany body.
So it really was advertised as a walnut finish? Isn’t that kinda like having one’s silver medal bronzed? Think I’d have just called it mahogany, which outside of South America sounds a lot more exotic than walnut. The mahogany body was an option on the Foundation and the Patriot basses.
I don't know how much they charged for the option but I bet it was not expensive.
Seems walnut finish is what some companies like to call a brown stain over unspecified crap wood.
No, not Peavey. So it really was advertised as a walnut finish? Isn’t that kinda like having one’s silver medal bronzed? Think I’d have just called it mahogany, which outside of South America sounds a lot more exotic than walnut.
Nah, I got it from descriptions on Reverb and eBay.No, not Peavey.
Peavey offered a mahogany body as an option to the Patriot and the Foundation basses, they identified it as a mahogany body.
I think you've heard the term walnut finish because some companies (not Peavey) call a brown stain over unspecified wood a walnut finish.
Maybe. Some just say walnut, but others say walnut finish, connoting that they understand it’s a different wood. Or maybe just don’t want to make assertions about the wood.Maybe they were using those as color descriptive not actual wood species?
By this time, I suspect that would accurately describe them all. Nonetheless, I like it and don’t have another guitar or bass in quite that color. So I waaaant one.Guitar Center calls the mahogany body Patriot bass "Worn Brown"![]()
Yep. I have a couple T-15 and one T-30 six strings, but as student guitars the Patriots are head and shoulders better. I like short scales but in using standard scale, better tuners, and much better bridges in conjunction with the superb Super Ferrites and Peavey’s great necks, Patriots aren’t instruments one really outgrows. They just get replaced due to GAS. Or BAS, on this forum.regardless of what the wood is---- I can tell you --- DO IT!!! they are great instruments either one
I have the 6 banger at the moment -- have had basses-- and am watching one "in my hood" on craigslsit-----

.
I knew $25 was the price to upgrade from all maple neck to rosewood fretboard.I bought one in 1988... $25 for rosewood.... $25 for mahogany... $225 total
Ring around headstock. Grover titans... Ferrites
Wow, I knew it was $25 for the rosewood, but only $25 for the mahogany body, too? I'm also surprised there aren't more hogs around as well.I knew $25 was the price to upgrade from all maple neck to rosewood fretboard.
But $25 is reeeeealy cheap to get a mahogany body, at that price I think they would/should have sold tons of them!
And the total for the bass new was $225 in 1988? ...really? ...that's cheap.
My Patriot came with it's own special Contour case, it won't fit in the Foundation/Dyna/T Contour cases due to it's wider bass side horn splay. The case has to have the larger, squared off bass side horn cavity to fit the Patriot, as seen in the pic below. My Foundation and Dyna cases have the original brown interior intact and I don't know, but maybe there is an insert for the bass horn to keep it snug. The Patriot case was missing all interior padding and lining, so I redid it.I’m going to pick up the Patriot tomorrow. It does not come with a case. Does anyone know if it will fit in a 90’s Fury or RSB case?
