Hey, here's another question. These are most likely D'Addario's on this based on the multi color ends. But are these things Ground Wounds or Half wounds what ever they call them? They are not Flats and they are not Rounds. They seem dead as heck but that could be just the way they feel.

I think that's what they are D'Addario Half Rounds. Never played them before but I really don't think I'm interested now! LOL. I don't get along with D'Addario's too well in general. Only bass strings I've ever broken.

I love my 4 string Dyna Bass and set it up BEAD to have a bonafide 80s instrument to handle the low notes for the 80s cover band. The catch is that missing G string makes the bass rather narrow in use over the course of a gig. I would rather have a 5 string for the low note songs and continue to play it until grabbing the 4 string passive bass makes sense.

I also have wanted to try out a 1st Gen Dyna 5, just for kicks, but they are usually a little too overpriced or beat up for comfort.

So... I had some email exchanges and negotiated a very acceptable deal on that funky grey/green 1st Gen Dyna Bass 5 string on eBay. It has a volume pot issue, but an exact, spider leg replacement pot was easily found and it's on the way. I will get this one back up and running properly and see how it suits me. Hopefully this bass passes muster and will become a viable gigging bass, or at least the 'leave at the practice space' bass. I really like the preamp on these basses, it works and sound great for my needs, and the active/passive mode is very useful. I would like to return the 4 string Dyna back to EADG and use it that way for gigs.

If this Dyna 5 just too goofy feeling relative to my usual 5 string suspects... someone else can then enjoy it's restored self.
But... US Peavey with Super Ferrites!

Not a huge fan of them either. I have a set on my one of my Jazz basses and I feel like they have way too much rattle and brightness. I much prefer DR Pure Blues or GHS Boomers.

However, I have been wanting to try a set of GHS Pressure wounds on my Mill 5.

I just installed a Set of XLs on a GV (that's leaving)... very cool strings.

I've normally used GHS Super Steels with Contact Cores.

For strings I normally use DR's. Hi Beams or Lo Riders. I just bought a couple of sets of the Black Beauties to try. I used the Dunlop Super Bright Nickles for about a year and a half but I like the DR's better and just went back a couple months ago.

As Far as Flats the only set I've found that I really like, Feel and Tone, are the Ernie Ball Cobalt flats. Those things kill on my P bass. And speaking of Ernie Ball I decided to try their string cleaner wipes and ordered them from Fretnation a couple weeks ago with the Black Beauties. They really seem to work. My hands sweat like crazy and I can dull a set of strings rather quickly and these brought them right back. Pretty impressive and a huge cost saver for me.

I have never used the D'Addario Half rounds. I did use the Rotosound Solo Bass pressure wounds back in the 80s when I discovered that the Roto Swing Bass rounds were demolishing my frets.
Flats weren't my sound, nor cool back then, so that was NOT and option. haha Cobalt Flats are thumbs up now!

I've had great dealings with Pickguard Planet (I have a mirror on the way for my Fury as I type). Many here also like Pickguard Heaven and the brilliantly-named Pickguardian. Pickguard Planet has your pattern, whether you've got a split pickup or a soapbar.

Is it the usual 5/16” nut? I replaced one recently. I removed the strings, heated the nut with a soldering iron and was able to remove it. Use a 6 point socket or wrench. Do not use a 12 point socket.

I have several of the nuts so let me know if you need one.
