For 10 years I owned & gigged with a Peavey TNT 160, loved that amp never let me down.

Peaveys gear has always been super reliable. In all the years I used my Peavey amps the only thing that went bad was a diode on my TNT100. That was in the first year I had it so it was most likely just a bad component to begin with. I think I was 15 and a friends father that was an engineer fixed it for me. Never had another problem with any of it. Ever.

Years ago when I was getting back into playing I went for an audition and the Amp that was there for me to use was a TNT100. First time I'd played one in years. Really sounded good. Better than I remembered.

I travelled the globe for 5 years only playing Peavey... it was dropped, lost, stolen, found, been through a fire... NEVER had any failures.

Head was a Mark with 2-15 cab

Later I gigged with a 212 reknown (yes guitar amp)... have also had MegaBass... TNT, Basic and on and on.

I mostly gig GK microheads as they weigh next to nothing and are articulate.

I did pick up a Trace Elf (silly feeling I needed to return to my Peavey roots)

Yes after writing my post I looked at eBay and saw a couple of TNT 160's for sale pretty cheap. Brought back a lot of happy memories a great American made amp, always had a soft spot for the Combo 300 as well .

I've never seen that finish but maybe someone else knows.

Hey Family !!
I just recorded with my new band today at a multi million dollar studio. It was a grand experience ! I had many basses to choose from and I landed on the Peavey Axcelerator. It sounded like an Alembic, with a little more growl. Anybody who is even considering an Axcelerator, I say JUMP ON IT !!!! I had such a wonderful experience. The engineer took his Fender Pbass to the session and was kind of trying to convince me it was "the tone to have". After a little while he freely admitted that my tone was "killer" and sounded amazing. I'm telling you, not only is the Axcelerator a breeze to play, but the recording tone is amazing. It is crystal clear, yet has nice, thick growl. When we get the masters, I will post them if you're curious.

The GV Bass I took a flyer on from GC should be delivered today. It's the one that had the pickups swapped to Jazz pickups for some reason. If it has the original preamp and isn't in too bad of shape I'll probably keep it. If the preamp has been changed or removed it will most likely go back.

Well. I just got it in. In typical GC fashion it is supposed to come with a case (advertised that way) and didn't come with one. That'll be a phone call. More importantly it has Bartolini Jazz pickups in it, knew that, But it has a Bartolini preamp, 918F installed which is what I was concerned with. Going to have to carefully consider this at this point. But it doesn't look good at the moment.

Was this at least one with the visible weave on the back of the neck. I don't think there's any difference, but it looks cool as hell.

That is a bummer. Did you call in the order directly at the store or place it via online order?
I have found that calling the store directly and ordering does two things: the person that helped you gets a commission, so having a dog in the race makes for a better ordering experience. After making the order, you can then request from them to kindly take the instrument off the floor and put it in it's case until the order processes and gets packed up. The call center sales staff and operations/packing crew have no idea about the cases nor the ability to insure it's included. Never had an issue with cases being forgotten when doing it this way.

The bass itself is in pretty good shape all around. Not Minty but I did not expect it to be so, however, it does have the plastic on the battery and preamp cover still. Go figure. Has a few dings from being played over the years but they are all on the backside and none thru the finish. Neck and frets are excellent, they look to have been crowned at one point, and the truss rod turns both ways easily.

Whomever did the preamp and pickup swap did a very nice job of it. Most impressive is the non hackjob installation of the Jazz pups in the VFL spots. They have Chrome surrounds and nicely constructed wooden blocks under the surrounds that everything appears to mount to. No Cutting or grinding anywhere. The pre has an active passive switch, three band pre with switchable mid frequencies. It's the older two module style. So misguided as it was, it was done well.

The thing is it looks like it's been sitting a while as it has quite a bit of dust all over. That and it could use a really good cleaning as well. I'll see what I think but Id rather have the stock pups and preamp for it. I could just keep it and play it as is while I find the parts it needs or just return it. I am not certain which way I'm leaning at this point.

Yikes. Sorry to hear about your issues with GC. I'm totally sympathetic to your experience, as I just went through the same thing last month. Even more so given what you experienced on your first attempted G bass purchase.

If this bass was priced 40% lower, I'd say keep it just for the body and neck alone and wait for parts to surface. The biggest question is -- how reversible are the mods? What befuddles me is there are tons of Jazz basses on the market to add third party Jazz bass electronics to. Why in God's name would anyone use a GV bass with dual VFL's for that kind of project?

Anywho...it might be easy to pick up VFL's and a preamp from Peavey, as the Cirrus is still in production. My concerns would be the metal brackets surrounding the pickups and if they are drilled into the body. That's a tough spot to be in Tin Indy, as I love my GV and the modern sounds I can produce with it. Paired with the Fusion 550 I just picked up - I can cop just about any tone.

Good luck. Hopefully GC can do some type of compensation to offset what you spent and make it right.

Sounds like a good bass. Not what you were expecting, but maybe it will grow on you. Having all Bartolini stuff is a good thing. If it were me, I'd consider keeping it the way it is and just getting another T.

It is actually well done. I could put a pair of VFL's in it and you would never know. I'll take a couple close ups tomorrow and post them so you can see. It is fortunately not a hack job.

Sounds like a good bass. Not what you were expecting, but maybe it will grow on you. Having all Bartolini stuff is a good thing. If it were me, I'd consider keeping it the way it is and just getting another T.

I am half wondering if the Bart preamp will work with active pickups. It does have a trim pot for gain adjustment. I could run it that way while searching up a Cirrus or even better, Millennium preamp.

I have been trading emails with Peaveys parts dept and they do have the pups but no preamps. I've also had one of our brethren reach out to me with a new set as well.
