Like you, I had flats on my 91 maple and black Foundation and loved the sound. But since those days I've started playing rounds and my favorites are D'Addatio Nickel, Super light (.040 to .095), balanced tension (EXL220BT). I tried them on this new Foundation and its turns out they sound great. Not clanky or zingy at all.

I have 45-105 Cobalt flats on my 84 Foundation. They have been on there for maybe 4-5 years? Nice and broken in and thumpy. That was the impetus for getting a Foundation--to have a designated 'flats Jazz bass.' Turned out that I like Foundations every bit as much as J basses (in some ways, even more so) and ended up with a small army of Peavey basses. I keep rounds on the 4 & 5 string Dynas for getting the round tone on a Foundation type bass.

What's up with the reversed pickup wiring on the neck pickup in a Foundation? My 87 has the neck pickup red wire going to ground. Is this normal for these?

Yeah, it's goofy. They have reversed hot and ground colors for the two different magnet polarities and wind directions found on the SFs. I have encountered mid to early 80s Ibanez single coil pickups doing the same thing on a couple guitars I have owned.

• Neck checks out straight
• Frets are as new except for needing a polishing
• Neck heel holes were drilled for a four bolt but I'm using this 86 body
• I took a chance buying this neck from a liquidation sale but glad I did
• It should work fine
• Still have to remove some tape residue
• Here's before and after a little clean up and a mock up
• Not sure if I am keeping the white
• Got a new wired harnnes assembly from Reverb

I stumbled upon a seller who offered me a pick of some cool Peavey new old stock necks , I'll know more tomorrow , But for now I have a choice of two new old stock rosewood Foundation 2000 necks (4-string) but both have some tape and/or smudges on the headstocks - choices choices ? If this works out I may have a source which I may be able to share here or in a pm (if that is allowed here ?) , But not until after tomorrow - I was also showed three other 4 string Foundation necks (rosewood) also new old stock but with no frets installed - They claim they obtained lots of parts but are slowly cataloging them and learning about guitar/bass parts in general - Which one should I get for my project ? I'm thinking #1

#1. Fretboard appears nicer, and #2 headstock decal may get damaged trying to get the crud off.

How can they class either of those as "NOS" ?

Something is weird between D & G tuner holes on #1. Who knows what happened with the decal on #2.

Be careful of of Peavey parts hitting the market after last year's auction. Some will be unfitted parts ,others will be QC fails , more will be faulty parts from items returned for fixing . No guarantee or warranty was given on winning lots and the lots were made up from stuff collected in a long disused factory.

Similar situation occurred over here when they auctioned off the contents at Peavey UK.

Understandable, it's not everyday you find a source for 18+ year old discontinued parts.
Chin them for more info before buying

they inherited the parts warehouse from a relative so they say , They claim to know nothing about guitars/basses and started listing parts on fleabay & reevurb , Seller bounced a number of necks off of me via text and showed me pics after cleaning the crud off , I agreed to try one out at a chepo price and he said normally they don't accept returns but "may" make acceptions - I did mention he should list the source / origin of the parts and that prices should reflect the fact the he can't guarantee fitment and/or QC - Ok so I'll be the guinea pig this time .Thanks for once again schooling me with your insight !!!

Doesn't paint a pretty picture. Freely admit they know nothing about guitar stuff so they've no idea if any items they sell are functional and they're not too keen on returns ?

Agree....these are probably auction parts hitting the market. If the source is close to one of us, it would be good to try to take a walk through and see what he has.

It's looking really nice. I like the speed knobs so I'm of no help.

I prefer the speed knobs as well. I do like the earlier metal ones with the P on them but I do not care for the later domes they used after the speed knobs. Just seemed cheap to me.

I found some speed knobs similar to the Peavey ones on Amazon a while back. The rubber grip is a little different but if you wanted that look they are a good substitute.

I like the way the speed knobs look on Peavey basses.
I've decided that extra weight on a bass for no functional reason has to go....got a dozen chrome dome knobs in a drawer.
Just weighed one of those chromed brass dome knobs and they weigh 37g while a speed knob comes in at 5g.

100% agree. A while ago I believe @kodiakblair had a source for the rubber grip. I believe it was identical to a rubber belt used on RC cars. Maybe he can post it again.

I've bought a few parts from the forgotten storage.

The GV neck had a hole drilled through the fretboard at the 15th ish fret area. I've seen some that had the wrong model silk screened to the headstock.. some that needed clear coat redone.

The frets were ok.. so I ran with them.

There are some good deal parts out of that forgotten warehouse... many need cleanup and final work.
