I think I'm answering my own question here, but seeing how crazy I am.

Got a Gen3 (early 90s) Fury. As advertised, plays like a Jazz, sounds like a P. Pretty much new condition. The issue is, the fretwork is pretty awful. I don't know that I've ever judged/put down a bass due to fretwork, but this one is making me see why people will have that complaint. Super sharp, and feel really high in the higher registers - to the point of squashing notes around the 14th-15th fret on the G.

So - would you drop $120-130 for a fret job on a bass that usually sells around $200-300? Seeming kinda worth it to me, in that it's pretty much perfect apart from that. Just have to get over the mental hurdle of 'investing' in 'cheap' gear.

Obv, the 90s US Peaveys punched WAY above their weight class.

PM me if you want to talk about getting that neck to play like buttah. I can make it happen.

You are correct , This is Non U.S.A. Peavey - Made in China - the Scorpio bass with the scorpion logo had Duncan basslines p/j pickups - ps this is not my non usa china made scorpio pictured see ya

The Ellefson signature Scorpio DE was only made in China, a very well made bass. The Sarzo bamboo Cirrus was also made in China at this time.

My 2 Scorpio DE with the EXP in the middle. As usual I found the Duncans to be a disappointment so sold the ones from the left hand Scorpio, bought Entwistle Neos and had enough change left to buy the EXP

I have seen a grand total of TWO, presumably prototypes. They were both up on Reverb early this year. EMGs, at least in one of them. One was white with a black pickguard. Wish they would've done a US model, love my Chinese one. Think they were asking $1500 on Reverb, wasn't that much in the market at the time.

That's neat! The peavey prototype market is an interesting one.

What is the white bass to the left of the blue TL5?

Dave should have taken the truss rod nut all the way off and given it the patented vaseline treatment that Mech would recommend.
I bet the nut would have turned smoother and not seemed so maxed out.
Maybe even throw a washer of two under the nut.
But as usual, the 35+ year old Peavey set up well and sounded good.

I personally cringe every time he uses the neck tilt instead of a traditional veneer shim.

Love my tilt necks! I have a T40, Cort P bass, and a bitsa J B Player, all with neck tilt. Shims are for builders.
