Hello all,
I posted in the general thread, and was directed here. If anyone is watching that thread, i apologize for double posting.
I was hoping for some advice from some fellow Peavey fans.
But, here's the situation:
New to the forums, I recently decided to start looking around at some nostalgia instruments.
My folks got me my first bass, it was a 1987ish Peavey Fury, with the scroll style logo. So, first generation.
In college I had to sell the bass to make rent, and have always regretted it.
I came across the *exact* bass, color, 1st gen. Even the dials and tuning keys match.
My conundrum?
Dude wants $575 for it. Which I have no doubt is more than what it cost brand new.
Thoughts? How often do these come up available? I'd appreciate any advice.
And, anecdotally, I called my original "Christine" after the car in the Stephen King book, that should tell you what color and pick guard I'm looking at.

Original Street price was around $200. They come up frequently in the 200-300 range. Depends if you want this exact "christine" spec.
IMHO the even the early P-style furies aren't that uncommon, and i feel that price tag is unreasonable. That said, if it's worth that price to you, that's totally understandable given your story. But my number for one of those is at the very most in the 350 range, which is still probably overpriced.

I finally got around to listening, I love that the first thing you played was Stu Hamm! The bass sounds good, nice playing!
I really need to practice a lot before posting a video here and embarrass myself. The FrankenCirrus is getting a Nordstrand 3B, so not handmade. The project I started off with a log from the neighbors yard may get a handmade preamp, I'm considering making everything but the neck, strap button, and pickup from scratch (home-made bridge is a possibility) We'll see if it turns out the way I imagine.
1st, Welcome to TalkBass! Fury's are quite popular around here but IMHO that one is way overpriced. Since you've already made an offer of 400 and he declined I think I'd pass. I don't think he is going to find many takers at that number. I'd keep watching it and see if he relists for less. As others have said there are normally lots of Fury's available, if you wait a little you can find what you are looking for at a better price.
I would top out at $300-350 for a 2nd Gen Fury. Unless it was a unicorn: black with a matching black headstock and rosewood fingerboard, then I might be tempted to pay $400.

That's a laugh. Looks totally roach'd to me, rode pretty hard. It's cool that it has a painted headstock and the script logo 'n all, but if I was local I wouldn't even bother going to look at it. Not even for $78. BTDT too many times. In the end.....false bargain.
That certainly ticks the boxes. Couple other things...
--Tuscon AZ, so it's acclimated to the dry climate that I reside. Pro!
--Super beat, looks like a refin over red? I like natural relics that tell a story, though. Neutral!
--Local pickup only. 12-15 hour drive from here. Hard Con!
--Has a changed out pickup. May sound good, may not. I have pickups. Neutral!

Yeah, even a Peavey lover from Phoenix may or may not want to make the 4 hour round trip drive.

I agree, Looks like it was Red originally and repainted black. Then it looks like that was beat up and the bass sat outside for a while soaking up some dust and dirt.

You're too kind. I hate my videos, hence so few of them. It's SO much harder than it looks. Some people make it look so easy. I guess playing bass is like porn.
