UNBELIEVABLE EBAY FIND!

Quite expensive for what it is. The one I see in stores are generally in the $9 to $18K price range.

The big selling point is the color. Very few 57's were made in blonde. There are a few 58's out there....they're more common, but still rare.

That said, he really isn't asking for $25,000 ...he's setting a high line and has the "make offer" button there for interested parties. He probably is expecting 17-20k, but by putting the 25k price tag in there, not only does he set his starting point for negotiations, he also makes sure that his bass comes up at the top of the page in Ebay "high to low" inquiries.

My guess is, he'll get the crap lowball'ed out of him Ebay-style, with people ranting and raving that his price is too high. Or, he'll get nothing at all.

I try to put "high lines" on stuff I sell on Ebay and get tumbleweeds, regardless of what it is.

I saw a guy try twice to unload his Ernie Ball acoustic for with a $1400 pricetag with no takers, he openly got frustrated in his E-Bay comments and listed it one last time with no reserve. I believe he got close to $3K when the dust settled.

Interesting bass, high price but that's all part of the eBay seller game. I did notice a couple of things in the pictures that would cause me to ask more questions. The truss rod looks like it's never been touched by a screwdriver, same with the neckplate screws but look at those pickup screws, looks like someone used a chisel to adjust them - odd. I wonder how many truss adjustments the average player makes on a bass over a 55 year lifespan.
The solder on the pickups sure looks pristine for a bass that age as well. Not to call this a fake but I'd be sure to have a pro look at it before I paid a third of what he's asking.

I'm surprised he fore-went his overblown value assessment. Usually people will just keep going at the price they think it's worth.

I would venture the guess that his ranting in Ebay comments was the result of repeatedly getting hammered with "your price is too high" messages. Been there, done that...and my price wasn't even high! :hiding::eyebrow:

Exceptionally sexy bass in this thread nonetheless.

I'm surprised he's charging a realistic shipping price. Usually it's $200, as if UPS/USPS/FedEx would cover the value of it breaking in transit anyways.:p

Checkout the picture with the owner playing, it does indeed look like he is using his thumb.

Here's another pic of him:
