Just a little fun just to see what you guys think are the most over-rated and under-rated bass players... il start with my 2 Under-rated= James johnston from biffy clyro Over-rated= (im probably gonna get so much hate) lemmy from motorhead.... GO! P.S play nice with each other
Very nearly every bass player is under rated; it goes with the territory. I can't think of any over rated bass players.
Actually, not long ago I jammed with a metal group and the drummer told me I played well, so I am definately over rated or he was drunk or both!
Underrated- Rob Deleo from STP Overrated-Nottouchin withatenfootpole. He's a little known Greek bass player. Totally overrated
Over-rated, under-rated, whatever: Can't we just all get along and accept that everyone has a different approach. Music is not a contest. I repeat: music is not a contest.
right on man! end of the day people play the way they wanna play and i and anyone cant say otherwise.... but they are times when people hype the s**t out of someone and you get really excited about it only to be underwhelmed by em....i could be looking into the wrong way though
Unfortunately it has become a contest. With the best music being judged by how many hits it gets on youtube, or 3 judges that select the next idol, or voice, or american talent, or whatever.
Cmon', it's always been a contest. This is why you don't see my paintings along with Vermeer's at the Met. Art is not sport in that you can't have a quantifiable "winner," but you can still have good and bad and crap I want to spend some money on that.
would you guys says that bass players that use alot of effects i.e chris wolstenholme (or however you spell it) from muse, are over-rated? i know some people say that bassists use effects to hide "the real bass playing" in the band.
I wouldn't go that far. In fact, I'll pick up with the Chris Wolstenholme example. (@4 string mofo, your spelling is correct, but your capitalization needs work ) From my personal observation, he switches between several different effects to best serve the needs of each, individual song. Honestly, I think it takes an excellent bassist to be more chameleon-like from one song to the next, rather than copping the same sound all the time.
The flame war begins.... now... Overrated, Geddy Lee. Under-rated...whoever played the session for the Velvet Underground's "Sunday Morning".
Dammit! Has anyone seen mein FLAMMENWERFER?! EDIT: I won't comment on the "Overrated" category, but as far as "Underrated" goes, how about singer/producer/bassist Trevor Horn?
