In 1987, the comic strip Bloom County had a story arc in which the characters (Steve Dallas, Opus the Penguin, Bill The Cat and Hodgepodge) create a hard rock band called Deathtongue, which eventually changs its name to Billy and The Boingers.

Billy and the Boingers, originally Deathtöngue, was a band formed by Steve Dallas to make up for his fumbled law career. He hosted tryouts, saying that they should be able to play an instrument and be able to "grimace musically" (The latter caused some confusion). Their biggest hits were 'I'm A Boinger" and "U Stink But I Love You" which were performed by The Harry Pitts Band and Mucky Pip, respectively. The book, Billy and the Boingers Bootleg, also came with a free flexidisc (which I used to own both the flexidisc and the book that came with it.)




And if you haven't noticed already, the front cover is supposed to be a parody of the Bruce Springsteen Live 1975-85 box set, while the back cover is a parody of the U2 The Joshua Tree album cover.

Why modern audio recording might not exist without British DIY audio pioneer Joe Meek
If you’re not familiar with the Engineer/Producer/Writer of Telstar here’s a lengthy but fascinating read on the mad genius of Joe Meek.

Joe Meek broke all of the traditional studio production techniques that revolutionized studio recording as we know it today. Telstar was a massive World wide hit but Meek never saw a penny of it due to unjustly frozen royalties for his masterpiece "Telstar”.

Prior to Joe Meek, Recording Engineers wore white lab coats and recorded songs using studio handbooks that were followed almost religiously. He broke all of those molds. He even worked with luminaries such as Ritchie Blackmore and Jimmy Page (who credits Meek as a major influence on his own productions). Unfortunately he met with a tragic, violent death.

The instrumental part of the performance would have gone down in history as the best Kiss concert ever, the vocal part would have been very different but just as bad as usual.
The lack of thick black body fur might have also given away the imposters.

In 1998, the popular children's TV series Arthur had an episode where Art Garfunkel plays a singing, guitar playing moose. The episode in question, The Ballad Of Buster Baxter, features Garfunkel lending his voice and likeness to the guitar-strumming moose minstrel who sings "The Ballad of Buster Baxter" -- the story of how Buster feels when he comes home to Elwood City, after gone on a long vacation with his mother, Bitzi. It seems to Buster that, not only have his friends changed while he was gone, but they've forgotten all about him! Will he ever fit in again?

It should be noted that the actress who appears in the video for Blind by Lifehouse is Tina Majorino, who also played Deb in Napoleon Dynamite. The video also features Kevin Farley, who is the brother of SNL funny man Chris Farley.

She also appeared in the music video for the song "Perfect" by Pink.

The Runaways’ guitarist Lita Ford was invited to replace John Paul Jones in Led Zeppelin

Led Zeppelin without John Paul Jones might sound unthinkable, but by 1973, after five albums and constant touring, Jones wanted a break to spend more time with his family. “We were all very tired and under pressure and it just came to a head,” he told Mojo back in 2007. “I didn’t want to harm the group, but I didn’t want my family to fall apart, either.”

It was around this time that Robert Plant considered replacing Jones with The Runaways’ lead guitarist Lita Ford. In a 2013 interview with BraveWords, Ford said: “They came to the Starwood Nightclub. They shook everyone’s hands, and a huge crowd gathered around us, and we took photographs. We gave them a Runaways t-shirt, and they put it on. And Robert Plant says to me, ‘You’re really good on guitar. Would you like to play bass for Led Zeppelin?’

Ford also revealed Robert Plant’s offer in her 2016 memoir, Living Like a Runaway. “He asked me if I could play bass guitar. ’For who?’ I asked. ‘Led Zep.’ He might have been drinking or pulling my leg, but he seemed to be dead serious in the moment.”

Despite accepting Plant’s offer, Ford was reluctant to pursue the invitation. “I didn’t even try,” she said. “I love John Paul Jones. He’s one of my favorite bass players. I couldn’t imagine myself replacing him, but the fact that they thought about a female in their band, I thought was pretty cool.”

Ultimately, Jones opted to stay with Led Zeppelin, despite rumours he had taken up a new position as the choirmaster of Winchester Cathedral. “It was a joke,” he later explained. “Somebody said, ‘Do you like being on the road?’ I said, ‘No … I saw this advert for a job for the organist out by the cathedral, I’m gonna apply for that.’ It was one of those things.”

At the time, Jones also spoke to Zeppelin manager Peter Grant. “It was the pressure,” Grant told author Dave Lewis in his book From A Whisper to a Scream. “He was a family man, was Jonesy. By that time, the security thing in the U.S. was getting ridiculous. We started getting death threats.”

Jones was told to take a few weeks off while Grant pushed out a story about him being ill. That seemed to work, and Jones eventually returned when work commenced on Physical Graffiti.

The band’s 1973 tour had ended with the filming of three sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden, which later became the Song Remains the Same film. Looking back, guitarist Jimmy Page said he didn’t sleep at all for most of that week in New York.

She was born in September of 1958, so depending on what month it was in 1973, she may have been 14.
