Update to the G2220 saga

I am in the same boat. I don’t need the $100 to advertise for them.

I guess I'm in the other boat. I don't see it as advertising as much as the need to make some, any, tangible financial impact to Fender beyond just an apologetic email. I'd like it to be somewhat analogous to a class action lawsuit, where the class members may each individually only end up with a pittance, but the liable party still has had to pay out cumulative millions.

Besides, that satin tour jacket will look awesome on me.

I'd get a few t shirts and wear them to bed where nobody will see them.

Can anyone who owns one tell me if the walnut fingerboard is stained?

As I said in a previous post, my Junior Jet Bass II does seem to be walnut, stained darker and is wearing off from playing it to reveal lighter wood beneath. It's a little hard to see:

I got a response from Fender/Gretsch today (see my post #243). They sent a link to that website listing products with no price. I guess I'll just select some things in order of preference and see what I get. I'll bet if there is a class action suit, anyone taking their deal would be excluded. Fine by me.

Please accept this gift as a token of our gratitude for your continued support. Select $100.00 (USD) worth of Gretsch accessories from our website and supply us with the serial number of your Bass along with your shipping details and we will get your package out to you right away.

I want to tell you I recieved the same email and I looked at the Gretsch page, then I looked at the Fender site and I very politely let the fellow from Fender know that I was a Fender owner and I didn't really need anything from Gretsch but I did need some stuff from the Fender site. Long story short, he was awesome about it and they are sending me a new Fender pedal.

And, that's the end of the whole saga...

Not so quickly there, @Tvrtko - unless……… they sold any in a country with decent consumer laws - in which case they may may need to gird their corporate loins as they may be in for a bumpy ride from people complaining via the Authorities which enforce such laws ;)
it may be worth ordering some popcorn in :)

As for @LowEndLobster - well he deserves a consumer award for exposing such apparent corporate idiocy :D

Wonder if this topic has been picked up on any non-US bass forums.

I read through the whole thread last night. It's good to see that they're moving in the right direction as far as appeasing current, dissatisfied customers. If one in Shell Pink were to come up for sale used, I'd certainly buy one and put a pair of humbuckers in it.

Either a consumer award, or a bonus from Gretsch for making the issue very clear to it if it didn't know if it.

What is the consensus TB opinion on whether this was intentional misinformation to the consumer or just poor communication between the production department and the advertising department?

Seems like it would be stupid business practice for it to be intentional but it went on too long to believe they really weren't aware of what they were selling.

I don't think we have enough information to know that, but people who want to see a conspiracy around every corner have already seen one, and fanboys will tell you it couldn't possibly be true. And if you argue that we don't know enough yet both sides will say you're advocating for the other side.

And there are also reasonable people who are reasonably convinced one way or the other, and don't accuse agnostics of covertly taking sides.
