Updated Southampton Fifth Gear

Or Turbocharger! Appropos in that you are recirculating energy for additional power.

Do a V2 and V1 under the same hood for the best of both worlds plus a whole lot more.

Hmm… Warp Drive?

With a theme like "Fifth Gear" the opportunities are endless for new model names.

Ooooh, or a V1 and V2 in a single box, so you only need 4 knobs. Hmmmmmmmm...

Just received my new v2. Was so looking forward to this pedal but the heat knob is nothing but scratchy noise. No way I could adjust while playing live without major noise problems. That's not normal right? It's like a scratchy pot on steroids.

The heat knob does scratch. Same with gain. It's the same as a couple of the Zvex pedals. It's due to rebiasing a transistor while it's powered. The 'volume' of the scratch is really dependant on what is before and after the pedal.

When testing, they are usually pretty quiet, but when I put them in a chain this will happen. It's totally normal behaviour for the circuit. If it's not going to work for you in your setup, let me know and we can figure something out. If it's not going to work for you in your setup let me know and we can work something out.

My Fifth Gear v2 arrived today. Late when I got home so I've only fooled with it a bit but really enjoying it. The instructions on the website page really help. Volume maxed with the Heat off and the Gain around 11o'clock was a sweet boost that's really nicely voiced. If thats what the v1 sounds like then I can see why it gets it praise. Haven't spent enough time with it to settle on OD settings. There is crackling of the knobs (heat and gain) as advertised but i'm expecting to use this pedal only as a boost or mild OD so it's less of an issue for me than those looking for a swiss army knife pedal.

Yup, that's the magic V1 setting.
