Updated Southampton Fifth Gear

Was going to ask how this pedal sounds vs a Phat Phuk B but I was lucky enough to find a v2 online so i'll be finding out myself here shortly. If I read this thread correctly the v2 offers the flexibility to be a boost (identical to v1) or an overdrive so i'm looking forward to hearing it in those roles. I couldn't find to many bass demos.

The PPB/SPP is "raspier" due to the germanium aspect. It doesn't get as overdriven or fuzzy as the Fifth Gear but it sounds phenomenal. As a dirty boost to sweeten the tone, it can't be beat. The Fifth Gear is just so dynamic and can go anywhere from clean boost to dirty to overdriven fuzz. It's truly a desert island pedal. If I had to choose, I couldn't imagine being without the Fifth Gear. It's that good.

I agree with the response provided. I'll also add that the Fifth Gear that I have actually booted the Phat Phuk B off my board. In retrospect, I regret doing that, because they are both awesome and do subtly but distinctly different things...the Phat Phuk B makes your tone "shiny", while the Fifth Gear makes it "fatter and richer". I'd like to have them both always on, or at least be able to choose in between them. I'm never giving up my Fifth Gear though, or shutting it off. It really really really is that good, and as I've said many times before across many threads, I think that absolutely everyone should have one. I can't think of a bassist who couldn't use and wouldn't benefit from what the Fifth Gear offers in some way or another.

The Fifth Gear is just so damn good as boost. Sounds fantastic on its own and I can see why some would have two on their board. This is my most recent setup and I really can't see a reason to change it anytime soon. Fifth gear feeding either the Bearfoot Blueberry or Smallsound/Bigsound Mini.

For those who have tried the Blueberry, it can be described as a bit dark. I play with flatwounds and usually a pick but the Fifth Gear adds extra sparkle and harmonics to it that it sounds like perfection to me. The audio is Fifth Gear >> Blueberry.

Sounds great!!! Nice job.

How about a dual fifth gear. ?

Maybe have one at the beginning and the end? Or stack them!!!
