That's nothing. Back in the madness and isolation of the first Covid wave, I burnt one. As in, set it on fire.

It was a Greco Ricky copy that I got from a guy in Russia. He lied about the state of it and the condition of the neck. I stripped it, repainted it red, and clamped the neck on my workbench in an attempt to get it to behave. It did for a while then the up-bow came back. Took the fingerboard off, gave it a new rod; that didn't solve the problem. Neither did a refret, which it needed. One day, in the solitude of lockdown, I took it down to the nearby beach, a lighter and a bottle of meths with me. And I burnt the bastard. It was a cathartic experience, one I highly recommend.

Hate to break it to you, but unless you hermetically seal the body in a vacuum, oxygen is going to get right back in the voids. Unless there's something I missed. Molecules are pesky things.

Yes, but I wouldn't bother trying to explain anything, I doubt the guy who burnt this bass is into all that sciency stuff much. At best he just charred the outside a bit.

i dunno what's worse, the finish or the jokes...This roasting is a "thing" now. My local guy showed me a guitar hangin on the wall that was stained and it actually looked pretty good. Using a small blowtorch to bring out the woodgrain a bit while doing this adds some extra color variations when done right can look awesome, sometimes a "marbling" effect. I tried with this headstock, its not too bad after i stained it lightly red mahogany....didnt do the body,but might nexttime or strip it and start over

I think a "lack of oxygen" is the root of his problem to begin with! Clearly, the man has been oxygen deprived for too long!
