UPS Failure

I tend to FedEx my bike around the country. I usually ship it to FedEx Office stores to pick up at my convenience. It works great, and I do not have to worry about it sitting at my door, showing up at a hotel, or a driver carrying it up and then down the stairs leaving me a signature note. I try to do that with anything large or expensive. If it gets lost, it gets lost by FedEx, or in their store. I suppose one could do the same with UPS.

Bummer! A guy just posted earlier this week that UPS lost his Roscoe that was just Plek'd at the Roscoe factory. In for a one day turn around, shipped back to him and disappeared off the radar. A bass players worse nightmare!
I sure hope that it turns up real soon (and in the same condition that it left).

I always ship to and from the States by USPS, simply because I have no other option living in Germany and using the APO system. In fifteen years USPS has never lost or damaged an item, or delivered anything late or to the wrong address. Average delivery time from the U.S. is five working days; on several occasions I've received large items in three days.

OP how do you know they lost it? Was it marked as delivered but not there? Sometimes stuff gets lost in transit for awhile or sent to the wrong location. Some people steal mail off porches too sadly, which is why signatures can be smart.

I have had mostly good luck with USPS but considering the insane amount of mail they deal with it's not surprising how many stupid mistakes they make. Some of the mistakes themselves on the other hand are ridiculous though.

This. I have to get stuff delivered across town at my folks' place because junkies started snagging anything left on our porch. Gotta move.

That is one reason I will not use OOPS (UPS). If they don't break it, they lose it. FedEx is more careful, less $ and far more reliable. Even their Smart Post has never been a problem. Only a little slow. Hope they find your bass and get it to you!
I've had excellent results with Fed Ex for shipping out and getting shipped to me...AND, they are less pricey than big brown. They get my business now.

I think something is screwy with UPS Tracking right now. I was supposed to have received a Bag End S10-D cab yesterday. Tracking still shows it's on schedule for delivery "by end of day" on 7/7/17... yesterday. It seems to have disappeared after leaving San Pablo CA. on the 30th of June.

Hmm. Maybe the holiday threw them off...? I wasn't in a hurry, but it's concerning to not know where it is in the pipeline for 7 days. :sour:

UPS lost my Roscoe week before last and I still don't have it. Is this going to be a new trend? For a week it said that a label has been created then the day after it was supposed to be delivered it said Exception they are trying to locate package and it has been saying that ever since. I hope they find both of our basses and get them back to us ASAP!

I've been shipping with Fed EX since the 70's and UPS since the 90's and
have never had an issue related to a lost or wrongly delivered package.
Tracking with UPS is virtually fail safe. If it is trackable it is findable.
On the other hand, theft from leaving packages on the front porch is prevalent
so what is the chance it may have been stolen from your porch?
Then again, Sadowsky usually ships basses with a required signature for delivery.

hmmm

I just got a camera installed on my porch after having random stuff disappear occasionally. That and a motion sensor light can really help deter shady people.

In the end the best solution is just keeping your stuff locked down. I try and follow deliveries tracking just so I can get it off my porch ASAP when it shows up.

How can they "get the bass delivered" if they lost it?

Don't get.me wrong. I'm not taking their side. Rather I'm stating the obvious. They can't deliver a bass they can't find.

Twofer is right. They could blow smoke up your butt and tell you that they will go look around in the "backroom" of each UPS center the bass passed through and get back to you when they find it or they can get you started on the process in case the bass doesn't turn up. I get it, you wanted to vent reasonably but they can't perform miracles and give you a bass that they can't find. This is why every time I buy a super-expensive, boutique bass I go pick it up myself.

I work for Canada post as a carrier.
Signature is the way to go; we safe drop if we can unless the box says we can't.
Even in bad neighbourhoods, it's still pretty rare to have things go missing.
If a carrier is new, dropping at the wrong doorstep can happen more frequently than theft.
Always opt for a signature; if the delivery agent signs for it in lieu of you, you have an easy case
The other option is to choose 'card for pickup' ; this way, you can pick up the item yourself and avoid this altogether

Agreed. Unfortunately I'm not able to be there when the stuff lands anymore. I used to be able to work remotely at will but took a new position at which we are pretty much chained to our desks. Dumb.

Never ever ever use FedEx. I had a package shipped on the 5th with a delivery date of the 7th. The package didn't come yesterday even though @ 5am it was less than 5 hours from my house. They told me they'd have it here this morning. The driver "attempted delivery" to my address without knocking or ringing the bell. I suspect he looked at the apartment complex office and it was closed. The address is to my apartment, not to the complex. Now I have a new date of the 11th. (by the way, Fedex does deliver to the door in our complex, I've had packages come before with no issue) I think that because the box weighs 43 lbs the driver just didn't feel like lifting it.

The funny thing is this is cat litter. If they can't deliver my $12 cat litter, I definitely will not trust them to deliver a bass, head, or cab.

I order a lot of gear off line, and I have been lucky, but I wish they required a signature for the delivery. So my question iswhat happens if your merchandise is stolen because you were not at to receive it. They say they delivered it but left it on the steps who pays for it.
