Vegetarian Club Anyone?

I sold out last week.Been wearing non-leather shoes since I turned vegan 2 years ago,but I bought a leather water/snow resistant pair last week. Its been really cold here lately, roads blocked due to snow,my feet was always freezing,I was always sick and my synthetic leather Adidas pair wasn't helping at all.:hmm:

follow your heart cheddar and mozzarella cheese is really good. i mean you can kinda tell its not real cheese, but its great on pizzas and sandwiches. and the cream cheese is pretty good on bagels.

Invalid Link Removed under vegan gourmet.

This is the best brand I've tried. I find it to be inconsistent though. I've made cheese sause with it several times and sometimes it is good, other times it doesn't come out right. It doesn't always melt evenly IME.

The easier recipes (although maybe not the most health but still less fat and cal than the meat versions) I make are:

Taco (sub. boca crumbles)
Fajitas (sub. chkn strips)
Chili (canned tomatoes, beans, onion, seasoning, beer)
Tofu Scramble (firm tofu and seasoning packet)
Pasta and white beans
etc.

I would imagine not. In my experience, Soy _____ really means "this has no qualities that even remotely resemble what we're telling you it should. But, you should like it anyway just because you're a vegetarian." With the exception of soy milk, because it looks like milk.

Soy chicken has always tasted like the real thing to me. Most other soy substitutes will taste good, but dont exactly come close to tasting like their real meat counterparts.

any suggestions of an easy vege cookbook? Im really a beginner cook, so i cant do advanced stuff.

I'd recommend this one: http://www.amazon.com/Students-Vege...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265308458&sr=8-1

My girlfriend claims to have never cooked anything but spaghetti before going out with me. She got this book for her birthday from a cousin of hers. All the recipies are vegan & low budget. Everything she has made from this book has been absolutely delicious!

FWIW, I still have a pair of Docs & a leather jacket Ive had from long before going veg. I dont really wear the jacket anymore, maybe once since, but I have wore the Docs on more than a few occasions. I cant hep it, theyre the warmest shoes I own.

Avast, me hearties!

The wife and I have been vegetarian for a few years now. I could never go back. I am not quite vegan in that, while I don't eat anything with a face, I do eat things that, if fertilized, incubated, and allowed to hatch could potentially have faces.

:hiding:

I did find some nice Docs-esque leather-free boots. I'm going to put them on in a little bit to go shovel some snow. I still have my pre-veg leather jacket and bass strap :ninja: but I think that an even greater sin than owning them in the first place would be to throw them away while they're still functional, no?

Oi, still giving out numbers? I would like one...

For the life of me, I cant understand this 'I wont wear leather' thing. Its the same thing as the 'dont cut any trees down' thing-which cause the forest to burn up and waste all that wood anyway. I figure if God could sew animal skins together for Adam and Eve to wear, it's good enough for me. I believe God put all the natural resources here for us to put to good use (responsibly, of course), not to lock away in a box somewhere and try to 'get by' with poor man made substitutes.

ive done a few. thre tacos and chili are very good. is soy a good source of protein?

Soy is a pretty good source. It's considered a complete protein providing all the the amino acids that some non-animal sources like grain, don't have. Egg white is still the standard by which all is measured.

However, unlike animal origin protiens, the iron content is not what is called "Heme-iron" which is more readily available. For you grown dudes this is a minor issue, for the ladies, especially younger ones, it could be problematic. The trade is that there is some calcium. On a hormonal level there may be some risk of cancer for women who smoke and take birth control pills. Not good.

With all of that said, research proves and disproves the above on a weekly basis. If you wanna cut saturated fats, cholesterol, and potentially stress to the environment or to dumb animals, give 'er a whirl. You cats in the USA, Europe, and Aus. are all lucky to have access to so many meats and textured veg proteins (TVP) that there's no reason not to experiment.
