Vegetarian Club Anyone?

Cool thread. While I am not a strict vegetarian, I am on a long-term weight loss diet and have cut way back on meat consumption. I have found that as I continue, I am eating less and less meat. In addition to health and caloric issues, I have problems with meat industry practices regarding both food handling and animal treatment, [ETA: and let's not forget the mad science] so who knows where this will go. Reading here inspired me to download a lentils and rice recipe at http://allrecipes.com/. It was pretty good.

Lentils are awesome! My gf made a red lentil and potato soup a few weeks ago, so good!

Thanks guys! I have to say its been relatively easy for me this far. My gf has been veg for 11 years now, and while she isnt the reason I crossed over, its definitely made things easy for me. So, thanks to her for that!

good job! i coincidentally met two girls that became intertwined in my life (romantically and obsessively[shudder]) when i became a vegetarian. turns out they were vegetarians too! lucky me

one of them is in my life AND she likes cooking (and band photography); made it so much easier.

but even without the support, it's so much easier than you woulda thunk amirite:D

Absolutely. My gf never asked me to go vegetarian. We had fallen for each other and were dating for a few months before I made the change. I ate meat around her and she never gave me any beef for it :smug:. I did it because it was something I had wanted to do, tried doing when I was younger, and had failed at because I wasnt really in control of the food cooked in my household. If it were something I didnt want to do for myself I had plenty of options to cheat, but being that I DID want to stop eating meat its been a breeze. I dont even know if I would like the taste of meat now, though it does sometimes smell good.

i often think about how overrated meat is. people praise it like it's some kind of god, like raptor jesus or something, but when people eat it it's rare that they are so encaptured by the taste. people have specific ways they like their meat, and if it's off by just a bit it always just turns into a nother bland food. in the beginning if i ever had a problem i reminded myself of that and it was easy breezy from there

Is this club still going? I am going on ten months. Anyone know any comfortable shoes that aren't skinny width (converse, macbeth, trust me I look dumb in skinny shoes)? I usually wear a skate style shoe but I haven't been able to find much in the way of footwear since changing my life style.

of course it's still going, you can grab a number- in regards to the footwear i don't quite see your problem, i wasn't aware leather was a big thing in skatewear

vans
crocs
canvass converse hightops

Thats pretty much what I wear for non-leather shoes.

No offense but if I wore crocs, I'd kick my own ***. Converse are the skinny shoes I mentioned in my post. Vans has a very limited selection of , i.e. ugly, animal friendly shoes.

Is the list at the beginning of the thread up to date? If so, I'll grab a number in a minute.

Unfortunately, about 90% of skate shoes have some kind of leather, suede, or nubuck in them. The other ones are either sold out or look dumb to me. I was wondering, what kind of shoes do you guys wear for comfort/casual/don't look dumb with shorts?

I normally get my shoes from www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk. www.veganessentials.com is one of their US distributors. I like their Airseal's a lot. Thumbs up to the Vibrams as well. (My wife isn't a fan though...:crying:)

Vibram FiveFingers, or Ethletics(vegan, sweat free converse clones)

I honestly don't think I could rock the Vibram's. They are cool looking though. The converse clones and macbeth's I have tried. They make my feet look small which is not good for a big guy. It looks like I have stick feet. I'll just keep looking to see what I can find.

I would like a number when you can.
