Vegetarian Club Anyone?

I love how smug and clever the people that that spout off lines like this think the are. All they prove is that they are narrow minded, ignorant bigots.

It's too bad so many people are threattened by others who choose a different philosophies than mainstream ones - be it sexual preference, (non)religious affiliation, or even bass playing (to a lesser degree than the prior examples).

Yup, this is a tough place for a vegetarian bisexual agnostic improv player who doesnt like to learn covers...

Anyway - my point was all the bacon lovers are entitled to their opinion, but it is rude and insulting to pop in with some trite barb. It would be like if some guitard burst into your bass GTG and said, "Hey bass players - not good enough to learn 6 strings?"

While we are on the subject of haters, does anyone get looks and comments from friends/family? My wife's family acts like we became Satanists or something. (no hate to any satanists out there, just used to emphasize a point)

My Earth Science teacher in my first year at community college told the class that we eat meat because of a drug in animal fat. We are addicted to it and that's why the fast food restaraunts with the highest fat in their food are also the top restaurants in the country.

My family is pretty cool about it, they don't hassle me much. My fiancee's family is used to it because she's been veg for 11 years now. Still, there is the occasional friend who'll give me grief, but a lot of my friends are vegetarian as well. Aside from some light-hearted jocular ribbing I dont get too many looks/comments.

I'm a vegetarian wannabe. I hate myself for eating meat but I am not sure what else to do. :(:help:

If you feel guilty over eating meat you could just stop. I know that sounds rather obvious, but its how I did it. Cold turkey. I had one final meat meal once I decided to go veg and havent touched it since. Now I eat a lot more vegetables, tofu, and TVP. I dont miss meat at all, in fact Im at a point where I kind of find it repulsive.

Also, I find this book very helpful when it comes to making affordable and easy vegetarian meals:

Try the specific meat/days of the week method to test the waters.

Like stop eating one kind of meat altogether now, and pick one day a week that is 100% meat free.

When i went veg I did the no pork then no beef then no poultry then no fish method where over time I eliminated a different meat each few weeks and allowed my eating habits to adjust from the absence until I was eating all vegetarian.

I think that unless you're already a versatile cook/eater, the cold turkey method of going veg is too hard for most people and tends to doom the attempt.

I get hassled about not eating meat/dairy (for 13 years) untill it is found out i'm a 27 year old non-drinker/smoker/drug user with absoloutly NO religious affiliations as reasoning.

meh.

It's whatev. At this point i'd probably give more of a rise to someone that DIDN'T have something snarkey/condecending to say.

Thanks. I will start with pork this week and go for there. I lift weights, and need to make sure I get enough protein. I use whey shakes now, but liquid is unsatisfying after awile. And soy scares me in large quantities. Don't want no moobs. :hiding:

As long as you normally eat a variety of food it tends to be a myth that vegetarian diets are low in protein. There are definitely book on vegan weightlifters out there though.

Try to incorporate one day a week right now that is 100% meat free. This will force you to examine your current ability to eat meat free and give you answers to what you might need to work on. Once you get comfortable with the one day a week then graduate to two, and so on.

Even if you don't eat veg when you're out, start looking at the menu's of your fave haunts and see how viable eating veg from their menu is. Make a point to go out and try some new veg restaurants you havn't been to before. The more you are able to see eating veg as a viable option in your life, the easier making the transition will be.

Unfortunately for many people the idea of going veg with their current lifestyle means they'd have to live off french fries. :hmm:
