I bet you have a private message.

I think you should be banned for this. Its not acceptable to call fellow tbers what you have called JB.

I agree. He also started a thread calling Jeff worse names, which has already been closed.

He should get off TB and google a good therapist in his area..and then turn off the computer and take a walk.

Actually there are very few ways to scramble an omlette. How many ways do you know about. I will bet only one or two.

But, there are many items to add to it which is the " artful" approach to cooking, the "inner self" approach. My inner self likes cheeze. Your inner self likes sausage. The last element of playing the very final step to being someone who can play what they hear in their heads (most her can't do this) is their art. Art comes last, not first! Even making an omellet proves this; you have to prepare the ingredients before you can cook. So it is with music; you have to prepare your musical skills before you can play. If any event doesn't tell you this, then they are leaving out the most important element of attending any special event, that of telling you the truth about playing. Why do some here object to this?

Further, please do not make this about Victor. I made clear that I have always discussed the community of events of bass and music and have said (with no apology from me) that without music to regard and work on, you are not going to improve just because somebody told you how. People here always point to art in a classroom but I know that this doesn't work. Has anyone else noticed that almost nobody here talks about LEARNING how to play. Again, why do people here object to this? Thanks.

again...if i play one note and one note only I can be more of a musician than you can cause you are worried about all the other stuff...keep in touch with your inner self..you will be a better person...not saying you are wrong but you jumped the gun and the rules are not the same for all people...vic knows that it is a healthy combo of both ...who care is the chicken comes before the egg or vice versa? as long as you get to your goal is all that matters....

Of course you should but in your own time and at your own pace. We have a lifetime to learn music but not to apply it?

My love music started as a young child with simple nursery rhymes, my parents did not see the worth in stopping me listening to them in favour of Charlie Mingus. Everything has a place, everything is an experience, everything is a lesson..enjoy the journey, don't focus on the destination.:)

yes and no. it all depends on what your goal(s) is/are. learning the fundamental constructs of music allows you to take more scenic routes on your journey, regardless of destination.

Jeff is dead on, whether you like it or not... The guys that improve their ability as players after attending camps or events that focus on "non musical" things do so because they found a way (or were shown how) to apply it to practicing and learning musical things, not because it unlocked some mystic potential. Just for the record, I'm a fairly emotional and spiritual person so I'm not taking away from that but the fact is, tapping into your inner whatever won't give you the ability to use your tool with which you are creating UNLESS you find a way to apply it to the "learning" part. No way around it, really...

Has anyone else noticed that almost nobody here talks about LEARNING how to play.

Jeff, most will not.

Again, why do people here object to this? Thanks.

Mainly because they are more caught up in the glamor of looking the part of a bass player vs being one.

The best pose and how far your bass hangs is whats really important.

I can't count how many bass players have no clue to what the role of a bass player is in an actual band setting.

but I needed the soul first then the meat of music second...are we all cut from the same mould?

If we are not all cut from the same mold, then why did everybody learn the same words in English, for example?

Yes, we are all cut from the same mold. We are all equal under the law the exact same ways. We all need nourishment to sustain our lives the same ways. We all need the same things, just altered to our individual needs. If Hemingway wrote ion a different style than Anne Rice, they both still used English, and this is the point that you and others fail to grasp. You have to know what you are doing to even function on a low level of musical ability, and you have to know a lot more than that if you wish to express well your inner self. It amazes me how many people don't understand this.

Jeff-

I have followed you on different threads and enjoyed and learned a lot from them. You also reminded me once not to acknowledge people that only want to pick fights and are not open to actually learning, and people that can't distinguish the difference bewteen art and acedemia. Don't get sucked in.:)

It's a rare oportunity to be able to communicate with someone so willing to share thier knowledge. Let's take advantage of that (Jeff's presnece on TB) and keep to the subject of leaning music!

I stand by my opinions of jeff... he is not a person i respect or choose to listen to!

I say you are lying.

If you were telling the truth, you wouldn't even open a thread by him, much less post in it and share your experience and point of view.

The very fact that you are so wound up over his comments proves you want his approval.

Like I said, take a walk for a while and think things over.

but if you were sincere about it it would make a difference...

Not true! Loads of kids are sincere when they play and they are out of tune, non-skilled, and unaware about playing principles. When will people start to raise their sights a little higher when it comes to playing? You accept low standards of music and define them with nice expressions. But low standards of learning are still low standards. I don't accept low standards as valid no matter how prettily it is wrapped and presented.

If you ask the French, there is only one way :p

Most likely......Laziness
