Here's a bit of advice. Dont put all of your power into trying to master Vics technique. It is EXTREMELY challanging and will take along time to master. Just progress slowly until you think your ready to learn a couple of his songs.

well, let's see...i've been trying to incorporate some of his techniques into my playing and trying to make it seem musical, and well...i'll keep you posted. you have to see it to know what i mean. you have to keep in mind that vic is an extremely creative and talented musician. and he's been working on these techniques for like 30 years. and if you think some of his triplets and double thumbing techniques are nuts, you should see his brother reggie do the same stuff on a guitar. dear lord. you should check out the thread entitiled "yo victa." one of our fellow talkbassers seems to have some of his stuff down. sorry i couldn't be of more help. check out his videos....he showcases most of his tricks, and take it slow. trust me, after three or four years of trying, it's really frustrating and discouraging. good luck!

Saw Victor Wooten last night at the Prairie Grass Festival. He really is as great as I always thought he was and I was soooo close (about 15ft) that I even got great pics with a crappy camera.

I am inspired!!!

I just saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones on Saturday at Summerfest in Milwaukee. Aside from all the pot smokers (which gave me a bit of a contact buzz), it was an unbelievable show!

He's unreal!

I saw him for my first time 2 months ago. Still recovering. His chops are a-maz-ing. And he can groove. Sigh... we've all got a lot of practicing to do.

Interesting you should mention the pot... I brought my 15 year old son with me (he's also a bassist) and I think he learned more about hemp, paraphinalia and sex than he did about bass playing. I swear, from 6 to 60, we had to be the only two that weren't smoking!

None-the-less, it was a fantastic show!

hey bass players. I'm new here. does any know any vic. dates coming up in sept or oct. i won't be back in the country til then.
