Don't condemn anyone for their beliefs. That is the point of a belief or opinion. It can't be wrong. It is your own, and no one elses.


The world wold be such a better place if people would just let everyone else be.

I apologize if I have offended you or anyone on this forum. That was not my intent. My saying that "religion sucks", was probably a bit over the top, but intended to be tougue-and-cheek. But if I had said "Guilt and condemnation suck", would you have the same opinion? The word "religion" itself implies a list of things that must be done in a specific order and successfully completed. It has been my experience, that all of us fall short of completing the list in its entirety. Usually, when a person is "religious", and they miss the mark, it *can* bring on guilt, condemnation, and depression. IMO, this is not a good thing.

The premise of religion is pure. Its intent is to be just and helpful. But often times ends up not being so helpful or just.

Again, I apologize if I have offended you an or anyone else.

You didn't offend me in your views on religion. In fact, I agree with some of them.

I just don't think that it is your place, or mine, or anyone else's, to say what is right, what is wrong, or wether or not religion is good or bad.

This issue is something that people need to figure out on their own, without anyone saying what they should believe or shouldn't believe, or what is right or wrong.

I agree. But in the same breath, how can a person have an opinion and express it without it appearing that it is "right" or "wrong"? After all, an opinion is just that. And it's bound to clash with someone else's opinion. Aren't most of our views influenced by other peoples opinions? Isn't this how we grow? We tend to either agree, disagree, or selectively agree. Victor Wooten's playing philosophy has influenced me. While I might not subscribe to all of his views, his opinions have certainly influenced me.

Why is it ok to express opinions on most subjects except the spiritual? How did that get to be taboo?

Most Christians choose not to obey certain rules of the bible anyways, so whats the difference between being Christian and taking little things from all religions. I haven't seen a single denomination that follows everything in the bible.

I agree that many people and religions do not follow the bible explicitly. And all of us have sinned, haven't we? I'm sure I could think of something I've done wrong within the last 24 hours. I think the difference is that if we believe and we ask forgiveness, then we are forgiven. But then that's just my humble opinion offered as food for thought. If I have offended any one here it was not my intention and I apologize sincerely.

It might be because in some places in the world, hundreds, thousands, millions, of people die because of their opinions of religion or spirituality.

I know that isn't going to happen here, but it still has the same affect.

People feel very strongly about religious issues, stronger than for any other issue out there (for some people). Religion is the one thing that can make people best friends, or worst enemies, simply from saying one sentence.





This thread was about the religion of one person, and that question has been answered. Why is this thread still going? People are just gonna get mad...

If you look at what everyone has said and if you look at the initial question...mainly the yinyang symbol...that is what it is all about. Right and Wrong...the Good and the Bad. Vic chooses his path by looking at all things, seeing the yin and yang.

His religion is NOT imporatant especially in a bassists forum. Honestly, does it matter if he's buddist, christian, satanic, or alien. What matters is that he is one of the best bassists on the planet.

Religious issues need not be brought up in this forum and any future ones will be closed on site.

omg this guy is amazing i have been downloading songs by him online and he makes me love playing bass even more. i even asked for the victor wooten live at bass day 98 dvd for xmas and my family was just like uuhhhh who is that? i think bass players should get more credit! this is guy is amazing and one of the best out there. also what are some great songs by him?

Now that you've downloaded some of his songs for free and realized that you are into it you should consider supporting him even more by buying his CD's if you are going to be consistently listening to his music. My favorite studio album by him is "What Did He Say?" If you just want to hear an overload of stunning bass playing though check out A Show of Hands or Live in America.

Check out one of Vic's friends, Oteil Burbridge. Oteil is not as widely available but He's very inspiring to watch and listen to. Uhm Show of hands is my favorite VIC album especially His version of overjoyed is very pretty and Me and my bass guitar is always very mean. so please SPEND MONEY ON VIC. Or else he'll stop making bass wanking cd's.

FYI

Rob, the owner of Spotlight Music in Fort Collins has informed me that Victor will be coming to his store on Jan 7th around 5-6 p.m. for a 30 minute jam by Wooten (so we can be suitably humbled) and another 30 minutes of questions like, "How the F*** did you do that? Afterwords Victor is playing a show somewhere in town (sorry...I spaced the name of the venue in Ft. Collins).

yes the same was for the concert here in COlumbia. HIs shows are not as "intimate" as the flecktones but it sure is funky. I liked it better then the Tones concerts I have been to.
