Where did you acquire said footage? More importantly...where can I acquire it?

Adam Nitti does some stuff that sounds similar in technique but (according to Adam) is done in a different way. His music is way different structurally though.

Also to wrong robot, do you have any recommended recordings to listen to of burbridge? I have only seen him on the Bass Day 98 dvd and I dont think he does one impressive thing in that performance. Ive heard victor do much better fingerstyle playing than what Burbridge exhibits on that dvd so I dunno.

Am I the only one that doesnt think playing with your thumb equates to slap? I can play with my thumb and fingers and it won't sound like typical slap at all. I actually kind of hate that term, "slap." It just brings to mind showoff crappy bass players.

I know what you guys mean about the Bass Day DVD. Oteil seemed to show particular restraint that day. Maybe he was just being humble or something I don't know. But don't be fooled. Oteil is a monster when he wants to be. It seems like recently when I've seen and heard him he's stayed away from the flashy technique stuff. I get the feeling that maybe he's just reached that point that many virtuoso artists reach at some point in which tone and composition become the main goal and flashiness takes a back seat. (Listen to guitarist Leo Kottke's early stuff versus his recent stuff for an excellent example of this)

If you want to hear some of his kickarse playing listen to old Col. Bruce Hampton and Aquarium Rescue Unit stuff. If you wanna hear some SWEET, buttery tone and simple grooving then check out him holding down the bottom with the group Vida Blue featuring Oteil, Paige McConnell and the drummer from the Funky Meters. Personally I really enjoyed his rendition of Amazing Grace that's at the end of Rising Low too. It's just really nice and tasteful but there's this one blazing little run right near the end. It's pretty sweet.

Don't doubt Oteil. He's got serious chops.
