IMO, the tone ring cabs a different animal, especially since they're a single 15", but i think that if you get all of the rattles out of one, they're easily as good, and IMO, even better.
Again, a different cab, but i always loved those ported 2x15 Kustoms with JBL's. they were great sounding and very solid cabs.
I played them new. Apples to apples. Fender Dual Showman with D-140s.
A Sunn 200s would send it home...[and]...The Kustom with [2x15"] CTSs would spank the Fender...
+1 on the Kustoms. Gigged one for many years with D140's, K140's, and finally E140's. Best Blues band tone ever.
Conrad got back to say he's not sure E140 fits in 2000s. I think he meant fit as in fit inside the cab. It's hard to tell from the pics but looks like plenty of room for the bigger magnet?
but single showman 15 fender tone ring cab, IMO, is one of the best sounding cabs ever made.
and it just so happens that I am selling one with a E140 as I am retiring from bass
