VT Bass DI available?

Sorry the pedal didn't work out for you. When you say the VT Bass made the other pedals before it "pop" did you have the VT Bass engaged and how was it set? Was it set for distortion, was the pedal set up for unity gain?

The reason I ask is that if the pedal was set up to boost or distort your signal, anything ahead of it will be amplified including any noise or pops from other pedals. Were the other pedals true bypass or buffered?

If this is the case you will experience the same issue with the DK Vintage Microtubes.

EBS Multicomp and a Korg Pitchblack Tuner was in front of it.
I really, really never liked the sound from the VT Bass pedal with the Gain or the Character knob much beyond 12:00, so it was not set for any kind of distortion.
It did not matter what was engaged or not: Speaker Sim, Bright, Phantom Power, etc... no amount of settings changes affected how the 'POP' occurred - it occurred and it was very dangerous to the cabinet drivers.

I've since placed the VMT pedal in the spot where the VT Bass DI was, no other changes to the board, and all is quiet (well, except for the absolute dreamy OD the VMT produces) and fine - even MAXXED at Gain and Era.
One would assume it was merely a 'parts' flaw or manufacturing defect (soldering, wired incorrectly, etc....).

I do not advocate that ALL VT Bass DI's do this; honestly, probably just the once I received.... but I had to take it as some form of fate where a 3rd VT pedal didn't work for me, so I gave up on them.

My BDDI is still kickin' ass and the VMT sounds amazing in front of it, so - the BDDI seems to be the Tech 21 product for me - I'll NEVER give that up (cold dead hands, prying, and all that ;)).

It is a possible there was some malfunction in the pedal. It's hard to say without testing it first hand. We do test every pedal before they ship. There are so many variables. Every VT pedal you tried produced this popping? The non DI versions?

Has anybody used the XLR output yet? I only have one XLR cable at home, but so far one out of one cables won't fit in the socket. Hopefully it's my cable, though I've never had any trouble with it before.

Try a different cable from a different manufacturer. Unfortunately, cables are not as consistent as they once were.

I asked because a while ago one of our customers had an issue with noise and pops when using one of your Sansamp pedals with one of my pedals when daisy-chained powered.

The FEA pedals bond the power and signal grounds together. When daisy-chained powered with the Sansamp pedal, the FEA pedal was providing the power ground path for the Sansamp pedal through the signal ground that was causing the noise issues. If I remember correctly the customer measured over 200 ohms between the power ground and signal ground on the Sansamp… resulting in nearly all of the Sansamp power flowing through the signal patch cable, through the FEA PCB grounds back to the power supply.

The solution I suggested to the customer was to use separate or isolated power supplies. He tried that and the problems were solved.

I would have to run that info by our engineer. We in general don't recommend daisy chain digital switching power supplies with our products. They will work but we have received way too many complaints from end users and have experienced issues first hand. It would be cheaper for us to use those supplies but they aren't the best idea in audio circuits. I have one at home and sometimes just plugging the supply into the same power strip will cause my tube amps to get noisey and that is not even using the supply with an effect.

The issue wasn’t with the type of power supply. It was with the shared power connection. When the Sansamp was connected with the daisy-chain power cable (regardless of the type of supply) to another pedal that bonds its signal and power grounds, all of the Sansamp current flows through the grounds of the adjacent pedal(s) due to the resistance in the Sansamp power ground.

I am not saying that the resistance between the power ground and signal ground is a bad design… I actually know why it is done. My point is that any pedal that has resistance between its power ground and signal ground should only be operated with isolated power. Otherwise when daisy-chained, the adjacent pedal(s) become a power supply path for it and it is a recipe for quirky noise issues.

No, just the VT Bass DI.

Yes, I do use a OneSpot. Total of 5 pedals when the VT DI was connected. Never was an issue with previous VT Bass' or the current BDDI, or any other pedal for that matter.
 
It sounds like a VT Bass. Just with extra top end via the Bite switch: think of that like a third notch on the speaker sim, if that makes sense. The sound is bright with the Speaker switch up, but gets more high end roll off when you push it down...the bite switch is like you went the other way with the switch and got even more high end.

Thanks for the info! Though I really wanna hear how it sounds with the blend knob... I hear plenty of awesome overdriven tones in my head using it :hyper:
 
Super excited these are out now. I eventually would like to run this with a b7k and a real light compression with my mb compressore.

Currently playing a diamond p5 passive. The schecter pups are super hot and the bass is very mid heavy IMO. I lowered the pups on the top end and raised the low end and it helped a lot, but even unplugged you can hear how bright it is. I may adjust the pups even more.

This is running through a mb800 and a generic 4x10. Eventually plan on running it through a dually.

Look forward to hearing some clips!
 
Got mine today, only spent about 20 minutes with it but it's definitely a keeper; this is what the SBDDI should have been all along, and more. TONS of tonal flexibility, i haven't even scratched the surface yet.
Very pleased.
 
I tried mine this past SATURDAY and I also loved it set at "warm compression". I used it with a Precision through a SWR RedHead with 4-10" cabinet and a DBX 160X compressor. Hell Yeah it sounded great !

The VT Bass DI is a different design than its predecessors. We do not recommend using a daisy chain or digital switching power supply with any of our pedals. Combining the grounds can be problematic and many times a digital switching power supply will cause problems with other effects.

I have a switching power supply I use myself. The thing is, sometimes it works fine and sometimes I get problems. I just use it as an extra power supply at home when I don't have my Pedal Power handy. I won't use it on a gig. We aren't the only manufacturer that recommends using isolated power. I use a Lehle Dual SGoS switcher with some of my amps and they recommend isolated power as well.

It is advisable to use a
separate power adapter or an outlet on a multiple outlet power adapter with
electrically isolated outlets for the Lehle Dual SGoS, but with no other loads
connected to it, to avoid interference noise during operation or when switching
 
Cant wait to fire this up, but its going to have to wait a while. With any luck I'll get some time tomorrow.
