VT Bass DI available?

It sounds like a VT Bass. Just with extra top end via the Bite switch: think of that like a third notch on the speaker sim, if that makes sense. The sound is bright with the Speaker switch up, but gets more high end roll off when you push it down...the bite switch is like you went the other way with the switch and got even more high end.

There should be no more top end with the Bite switch engaged than the original VT Bass provided that the speaker sim is engaged. If the speaker sim is disengaged the pedal will be brighter than the V1 or V2 pedals because there is no high end roll off like there is on the V2 speaker sim switch.

I bought a brand new VT bass DI pedal and it was faulty right out of the box for 2 reasons... 1) the input was bad (causing random total losses of signal), and 2) the power adaptor connection was bad (causing extremely loud popping sounds).

Aside from the bad input and adapter plug tone-wise the pedal is GREAT and meets all expectations!

The store where I bought it (Long & McQuade, Canada) have tested and verified it is a dud. They have ordered me a new one and are taking the bad one back, but do I have a one-time lemon??? Or do I need to be worried about the replacement potentially having problems??? Anyone else have a bad pedal right out of the box???

Had an audition with a cover band last nite, played anything from Alice In Chains, Van Halen, Billy Squier, Cars, Judas Priest, Billy Idol, basically all over the map. I used the VT Bass Di into the band leaders Fender Rumble 150 combo amp direct into the fx return. It worked great, I couldn't get to the amp once setup because of space restrictions, but I was able to control my volume & eq at the pedal so all went well. The 10db boost helped & I left it in speaker sim mode on & the lows didn't get too boomy as I feared they would.

I ran mine, Friday evening, but went 1/4" through another DI due to noisy building stuff.

That happens to anybody's stomp box DI. It's the building.

In this group, I went through the VT Bass DI, and then a PRO DI into the PA.

This is a great little bass box. If you take it on the road, I suggest a good DI like a Pro DI or JDI for those places where the building wiring and systems affect audio quality.

If I may hijack the thread with a question to tech21nyc:

Would it be possible to modify the VT Bass DI so that the speaker simulation only affects the XLR out, not the 1/4" out?

Only the VT Bass Deluxe has that option. In the VT Bass DI the speaker sim circuit is before the EQ controls which would make it incompatible for that type of mod.

Since you are posting here, tech21nyc, I'd like to add that I love my VT Bass DI.
I just got it September and it's fantastic.
I run it with very mellow settings, like 10:30 character and drive, and noon on the tone controls.
It adds an awesome fullness and overdrivey tone in front of my GK 700 RB II.
I don't prefer either the speaker sim or the Bite.
No regrets whatsoever. It was a great purchase.

And yes I did notice it doesn't like when I power another pedal (TC Mini Spark) using a Y adapter off of the Bass DI power unit.
No biggie, always room for another wall wart.

My VT Bass DI causes a quite big pop when I engage it or some of my other pedals; up until I added it my pedal board was dead quiet. I have solved it by placing a Suhr Buffer in front of the VT, but is there perhaps something else I can do to avoid the popping noises? I should add I daisy-chain everything off one 1Spot, but I also get the same noise if I run the VT on a separate wall wart or battery.

I was just curious as to where you all place your VT Bass DI in your chain of effects? I had it as my very first in line, but I recently moved it to the last place and I think the other distortion effects in my chain sound better with the VT coming last.

I just started a thread on the same thing (kinda) I just got a B3 and have no I dea where to put this stuff, like what "output" goes to what" input" etc, ,I only have a vt bass deluxe,so it wasn't a problem,,Bass+wireless+tuner+vt deluxe+,ampeg head+ampeg cab,how ,and where to hook the B3 in??

We're glad you like the pedal. Daisy chaining pedals is just not a good idea in general. You are more prone to ground loops and interference. It's funny that people always assume it's our pedal that is the problem. It's usually the combination of different pedals. Are you using a switchmode power supply?

Well, if you like me have 15 pedals on the board, and have the last few years moved another 15 or 20 in and out of the board and hardly ever encountered a problem ... and then when you add the VT Bass DI you do get pops from several pedals ... I don't think it is all that farfetched to suspect that it just may be the new one that is somehow different from the others and is the one causing the problem? Of course in combination with some of the others, but if those 15 can co-exist, why can't the VT Bass DI? ;)

My guess is that it's probably the daisy chain. It could also be a faulty cable or pedal. Try running the VT with nothing else and see if it pops. Try using a battery or powering the VT with the One Spot but with nothing else being powered.

What is you signal chain? What effects and the order that they are placed.
