VT Bass Rackmount...

I've been spending a lot of time with the VTRM lately. I still haven't gigged it but that is coming soon. I spent the evening tonight A/Bing it with my 73 SVT and am blown away. This thing gets so close to the old SVT! I mean, it's really remarkable. It somehow even manages to capture that touch sensitivity and harmonic growl that the SVT puts out at higher volumes. I'm just giddy and continually impressed the more and more time I'm spending with the VTRM.

Husky,

What cab are you using, your dually? Also have you played with it through the DI out? You guys are killing me though, just when I thought I had ended my preamp search.:bawl: My short list (every BBE pre, every Tech 21, GK 2001BP, Peavey Probass 1000, Ampeg SVP) Just when I thought I was set, the VTRM came out.....

The SVP-Pro uses a 40 Hz bass frequency.
The Sansamp rack units are centered at 80 Hz for more boost at the 2nd harmonic, less at the fundamental.

This would be why I felt like the low end push didn't seem the same. I always liked my RBI, but it was lacking here. This has me thinking about the VTRM/RBI with a poweramp that has some DSP. Add a little bump on the low end through the power amp EQ, go out the di with the VTRM EQ. Sounds like it would solve the problem (at least for someone like me). Thanks for the input guys.....

Husky…whats your settings?

I'm liking …Drive10.5, Character 9, blend full, bass 2, mid flat, treb flat through a 810E.

Precision with rounds.

And I love all the regular bells and whistles that tech 21 puts on the back. Great stuff.

For the the SVT tone I'm:

Drive 9 (o'clock)
Character 12
Bass 1
Mid 2
Treble 1

For some reason I'm really digging the tone at a 50/50 blend. Probably because I dig the direct tone of my Spector's so much. For more "hair" on the notes I'm pretty much leaving the Drive at 9 and just easing up the Character knob to around noon. The more I move the Character knob toward noon or past I sometimes back down the mids because I hear them coming up also. Of course that's by myself. In a band situation I may just leave the mids alone.

Ok.

Sub filter- I only tried it with the nv610 but, it added low lows but took away some of the tight punch and made the bass control more wide. Some will like it, i didn't, maybe with one of my other cabs I would.

Bass- Tried the different settings, moving freq up made the sound alittle too "pointy", lower lost the punch, stock is what I prefered.

Mid- Lower and higher freq's just didn't sound as musical as the stock setting.

I'd like to be more helpful but, go ahead and try them out with your gear. I may try them out sometime now that I have my new lds 1212/5 but, probably not. I really prefer the 1212/5 only using the genz 9.2's preamps and prefer to use the VTRM with the NV610 cab. Two really good options for me. :hyper:

Husky, I tried your settings next to my 70's svt and that really sounds damn close with the svt set flat! Really good. The svt has a bigger low end because of the power section, I think, but the tone is there. Even sounds about right when I turn up the drive. Very nice.
