VT Bass Rackmount...

Husky, I tried your settings next to my 70's svt and that really sounds damn close with the svt set flat! Really good. The svt has a bigger low end because of the power section, I think, but the tone is there. Even sounds about right when I turn up the drive. Very nice.

That's cool to know they worked with your gear also. For a much cleaner and tighter SVT tone the character at 9 o'clock is really cool. At noon though it really adds just a tad of that pushed SVT squish. I definitely agree that there's no replacement for displacement with the low end of the real deal. I'm thinking about trying the VTRM with a non class D power section to see how that works.

Just posted 5 new videos on youtube. Used the vt preamp with my new 1212/5 as well as my nv610. Posted clips of the svt through both cabs as well. One using just my genz and the 1212/5. The last one using the vt is loading now.

What exactly are you guys talking about with the Putnam deal? My ears perk up when I hear "speaker sim defeat" for the VTRM. :)

Mike at Putnum guitars can mod Tech 21 pedals, so I'm sure he could do the rack mount stuff too. He modded my BDDI by adding a mid control so it's more like a RBI in pedal form. He also added a low end bass control & blend to my Oxford pedal. I found stock that pedal just sucked the low end out of my bass. He does good work at pretty reasonable prices.

I have the VT Bass DI with the speaker sim defeat, I thought I liked it better at first with the speaker sim defeat after using it for awhile now I find the lows are much more full frequency with it enabled & no amount of boost in the lows compensated for the shelve of the low end that the speaker sim defeat cut off. However options are nice & there might be a situation where it could be useful.

Thanks!

There is no low end "shelving" with the speaker sim defeat. There is a subsonic filter and presence boost that is engaged with the "bite" switch. The speaker sim is designed to give you a more "produced" sound for recording and live. It's a big component of the VT Bass sound as well as all our SansAmp products. When you mic an amp you get the proximity effect which will give you more bass and high end. You should still have no problem getting enough bass by adding it with the EQ controls. It also depends on whether or not you have the "Bite" switch engaged.

I'm not the best with technical descriptions, so the term shelving is incorrect, however the lows sound tighter & don't extend as low in the lower frequency's with the speaker sim defeated. That's how it sounds to me regardless of semantics.

Of course we're are not in the same room hearing your rig. My point was that there is no shelving of low frequencies with the sim removed.

I LOVE the tone with the Berg! I thought I was set with my current setup (Carvin BX1500 --> Send: RPM --> RBI --> return), but after I watch your vid, I'm rethinking my setup (once again).

If I buy the VT rackmount, I would probably ditch the RBI... anybody running an RPM and VT parallel (I originally read about using the RPM and RBI that way from a thread started by JGR)?

I set up VTRM/RPM in parallel just before my New Year's Eve gig. Here's clams-and-all audio from the drunk set... what we lack in finesse we make up for with volume. :ninja:

Again, that was my first ever go with the VTRM/RPM rig, but I'm happy with the result, and because it's such a versatile setup I look forward to more tweakery (slow month, no gigs until the 25th). In another thread (I think) someone said they run VTRM clean and RPM dirty; I'd like to try that, along with many other tone tweaks.

And yep, I've been grateful to JGR for inventing/discovering the SansAmps-in-parallel option years ago. :)
