They are different beasts...I'm using .30 strings on the black mk III. I'm in love with it (maybe because it's the newest one).
So the sound and playability are different.
Let me know when you come to SP. I'll be proud to bring them to you and hear these basses played by a pro!

Have you ever done that?How would the LEDs be connected to a power source? There's definitely no space for a 9v block in there...

I had one MKII with SIMS leds, you'll need to make (route) an extra compartment for the LEDS battery. But once it will make by a pro Luthier (I suppose) , I think nothing will change about the bass $ value. Martin will send the neck back to you with the LEDS installed , instructions and wires ready to be connected to a 9v power source, in this case a 9V battery.All basses that have LEDS ,besides Alembics SI and SII that have an external power source, need an extra 9V battery to supply the LEDS.

There is actually enough material and space to widen the area the battery sits in to lay the battery flat. Thus allowing another battery to lay on top of that one.
My MKIII has l.e.d's and it was done this way. I didnt even notice right away when i took of the cavity plate.
It appears that the Mk I that I have with SIMs uses the existing battery. There is also a switch in series of it to enable and disable the LEDs, but it still only turns on if there is a instrument jack plugged into the bass. Just another options if you didn't want to widen the body for an addition battery. Only just need a wire routed to the control cavity and a place to put a switch.
Oli, your red Wal would look BA with with either gold LEDs or red

There is also a switch in series of it to enable and disable the LEDs, but it still only turns on if there is a instrument jack plugged into the bass. Just another options if you didn't want to widen the body for an addition battery. Only just need a wire routed to the control cavity and a place to put a switch.

So, there are a lot of ways to supply the LEDS ! Choose your best one. Like I said, my ex WAL (with LEDS from Sims) was bought with LEDS and I did not know if it was original from WAL or if it was made by the previous owner. For this bass,there was an extra battery compartment with a compartment plate with a SIMS logo. Maybe the bass was sent to SIMS to install them.

By the way, I have 6 basses (Ritter with Sims, original from Factory-Status S2 Original from Factory, not SIMS- Alembic S2 original from factory ,not SIMS) basses with LEDS and all of them have an extra battery with compartment . I'd never ever seen one that uses the same Battery for circuit and LEDS.

I've seen pics of several Wals done this way. I originally thought this was the only way they did it, until I saw two MkIII's with the separate round Sims battery cover...I'd rather not have that, but then again I've never been an LED guy anyway.
