I emailed the seller to inform him that it would be impossible that the neck came off his black bass.

This is a MKII bass neck, not a MKI neck. The 1s thing is MKII basses always has 24 frets and MKI 21 frets, 2nd thing is the strings retainer type...old MKIs have 2 individual strings retainers, but the new MKIs also have single wide strings retainer. I have a 85 and a 2013 MKI to prove this !

So,the seller made a mistake when he said "this is from the Geddy's black bass", the correct was "this neck came from Geddy's Red bass". So it still could be a Lee's Wal Neck, but not from his famous Black MKI !

Geddy's red bass had a black neck. i definitely realize this neck did not belong on his black mkI. I figured if anything it came from his red bass. whether its legit or not I don't know.

The problem here is the writer/issuer of the C.O.A says that it was his black bass. Which means he doesn't know S#%T lol

congrats!!!! but...ummm.... where are the pics man!?!?!?! is it the shedua or the olive maple you got on eBay? Shedua still shows at bassdirect.

btw anyone notice that the birdseye maple in bassdirect keeps popping back out like a really bad turtle head from a left over burrito from 3 nights ago??

i had three of those last week Tues-Wed clocked in a 34 hours, lol! (granted 7 hours of that was in a hotel near a job site for standby, 10 hours was looking at equipment onsite and 4 hours travel time....rest was doing actual work)

My neck arrived last week and plays nice. I'll eventually have the board resurfaced, but it sounds awesome.

That neck is dated '89. I always had the impression Geddy got his red MkII later. Some sources state sometime in '91. According to several interviews he didn't order it new but "found" or "discovered" it, probably second hand in a store. Also, he had stated that his "red Wal" was "modified". So this could actually be the original neck from his red MkII.

Is that ebony?

Looks more like a dark piece of rosewood to me. Look at the brown streaks. Both of my Wals from '93 have ebony boards, which are deep black without that kind of figuring.

Also, check out the wood damage on the fretboard edge at the neck heel: IMO, ebony would not break like that.

Additionally, as far as I can tell from the (poor quality) pictures I've seen, both of Geddy's Wals had ebony boards. Thus, that "modification" of his red MkII could have been to swap the orignal neck for one with an ebony board and larger fret wire.

So, this could be the original neck of Geddy's red MkII.

Regardless of its celebrity status, 1k$ for a Wal neck is a nice price and thus would make a good replacement neck for any MkII in need of fretted one. However, I never again would trust eBay auctions written in all caps and with typos. Unfortunately, I had less than stellar exprience with such offerings.
