Wal Bass Club.

A friend of mine went to the 2nd Toronto show. Said it was an awesome concert. Apparently close to 200 people were ejected from the 1st show for using their camera. An employee of the ACC said Tool have their own security people enforcing this well known rule. Just go and enjoy the show. Plenty of vids on YouTube. Why risk getting kicked out?

Yup! They repeated several times it's a zero tolerance policy. A guy sitting in front of me got booted out and he was part of the VIP experience crowd too....second song into the concert too - so what a waste. If anyone is going, just enjoy the concert and don't risk it - last song Maynard let's everyone use their phones, so wait out that urge.

No suprising he doesnt or wont, simply because of the output difference of the two basses. The other part of the interview he commented on the output difference of a StingRay to a Wal and that EB had to increase the output of the Ray they built him to try making a seamless switch onstage.

Why not just decrease the output of the Wal by the internal trim pot?

I agree but for some pedals the output is too much. I had an EBS chorus that couldn't handle the high output of the Wal. Also not all amps handle it. Most overdrive pedals sound fine with normal output and some even better with lower output. That's why some guitar players prefer lower output pickups.

Do think that when not using any pedals there is tone difference when you have set the trim pot lower?

it’s really with any pedal and amp. Lots of amps come with pads for active interments or just hot instruments in general. A couple of my P basses hit my amps harder than my Wal. Maybe the EBS could of benefited from a higher voltage (IE 12v) for cleaner headroom. All of this speculation and how one person likes their personal set ups. Between true bypass and buffering of pedals I don’t notice differences of having pedals vs no pedals. Unless it’s a vintage pedal that has its own “built in tone suck”

What P bass is that? I have never heard a P bass with more output than an active Wal. Besides the hot output it is also the aggressive mids on a Wal that give some amps a hard time.

All I can say is I only use Mesa Boogie amps and these love that output of the Wals.

I have a parts bass with a PAF dimarzio model P that kills a lot of amp inputs. I have a dimarzio model 1 that also loves to distort. And my stock 81 P is pretty hot.

I think he uses the 400+. I have used my Wal thru a ton of amps and never had and input issues. Maybe mine is turned down a bit. Still sounds great.
My current amp list:
73 Ampeg svt
GK 800rb
Traynor yb1-a
Traynor ts50B
Ampeg BT-15
Traynor pre/power rig

Also, I was amp shopping awhile back and played it they all of these:

A Spector NS-2 is also a similar high output bass like the Wal is. So you should be fine.

But what I currently have, All Mesa: Strategy, Prodigy, Bass 400.

Amps I've used in the past and been perfectly fine: Mesa Walkabout and Big Blocks, Epifani UL500, GK400RB and 700RB, TC RH750.

That Black JG bass is a bit strange because of the Mk1 headstock? That Nena bass without the Wal logo is also interesting. Refin?
