Want to replace individual stomps with mulit-effects

Hey John, I just checked out your band's website. Good sounds and good sound, man. We are just three pieces, but that's similar to what we play. Anything from Skynyrd/Allman Bros/Molly Hatchet to Collective Soul, Cravin Melon, Bad Company, Eagles, Delbert McClinton, Los Lonely Boys, Kid Rock, classic stuff..... I call us a rock n roll hits band. After all these years of playing, I'm not trying to impress other musicians. We like to play songs the crowd can sing along with, and do a little head-banging, too. I live in a college town, and it seems there is heavy-metal, or country, or east coast beach music, or funk stuff. So, we fill in a niche in the Top 40 rock hits category.
We've got a big sound for 3 pieces. Two of us sing lead, and we use a vocal harmonizer, and loopers.

I was hoping I would wake up and not still be jonesing for a M9. Wrong. :(

Thanks man I appreciate it. The music on our site was just recorded into a laptop so it leaves alot to be desired, but we have some professionally produced clips coming. We play mostly classic rock with some other stuff (like country-pop and even a disco tune thrown in). There arent many bands around here playing the stuff we do so it seems we fill a niche too.

And yes, I think I am jonesing more and more for an M9 too. Damn! I know I could sell most of my pedals to afford it though...hmmm...what to do???

Seems we are in exactly the same boat, John, musically and M9 g.a.s.

I almost ordered one, as someone below suggested, to try it out for the 45-day return period. With AME, you can split it into 3 credit card payments. That would really give some breathing room to fully try it out... They won't do that for their open-box ones, but they are $40 cheaper ($359). They also add an additional year of warranty and free ship.

Cheapest one I have found anywhere is $329. Like you, if I could get rid of some stuff, and hadn't just invested in a PA system, I'd jump quicker.

I have a five-string bass for sale in the TB classifieds, and it's headed to the Bay shortly. (Plus a bunch of golf stuff.) As an alternative, I'm also considering the ME-50b, since there are a lot of used ones out there, and it's an effects pedal, too.

Bass Pod XT LIVE and X3 sound great in the soundclips, but I'm taking folks' word that it can be a pain.

Steve, It will always be something. Even my 86 year old dad is still buying equipment, and he plays in bluegrass and acoustic country bands. I just got in a Nady mic package from MF yesterday for him. LOL

If I buy one it will probably have to be from Guitar Center. I have a charge card there so it would just be easier until I would sell my current stompboxes. They do have a "blemished" one, which is probably a return, that is cheaper with full warranty and free shipping too. Plus I usually call to order and I almost always get some sort of discount (though I dont order tons of stuff so its not like its that often)

Does the ME-50b have amp modeling in it, and if so could you turn it off without affecting your tone much? I want to avoid amp/cab modeling, I spent thousands on my rig and basses and they sound good all on their own. Damn it, Im really torn on what I want to do but I am going to make a decision either today or tomorrow!

Gus & cybersnyder, Re: ME-50b Octave up, I'm not worried about. Bad octave-down tracking=big worry. Old technology...hmm. Not that big of issue, if it works good, but if it doesn't, it doesn't matter if it's old or new, right? bad=bad

No, the ME-50b does not have amp modeling to my knowledge. Or much synth. If it worked well, it would fit what I want it to do, but there's no sense in giving up my good-sound pedalboard for a worse sound. I'm looking for close to equal tone, and a few more options for the future. Main reason is just to simplify my setup, and lighten my load, so to speak.

Been surfing all over. Believe it or not, there seems to be better deals on the M13 than the M9 (used). More, more, more, bigger, bigger, bigger. :D

I feel a M series in my future. They seem to be almost everyone's favorite, and the reviews on them are awesome. One of the very first replies to my thread suggested the M9/13, and that has held true throughout this discussion. CD

Hi JimmyM,
if you were hard pushed to make a choice for the purchase Multi Bass Pedal in 2010, adding to your golden rule of multi's, "banking different EQ settings for different basses & rigs," what multi would you choose ?

if it's just eq you want, that programmable eq boss has is pretty cool. otherwise, no clue about what's hot these days.

FWIW, the "banking different EQ settings for different basses & rigs" describes much of what I was looking for when I got my Boss GT-10B, and it's working well. The only things I don't like is that there's only one input (so I have to run an external A/B switch), and it's a bit big. Two inputs and a smaller package with the same stuff inside would make it just about perfect for me.

Been surfing around for Line 6 M9 and M13. If found much better deals out there on M13's.

Comparing the two, I think there should be a bigger difference in price between them.

If they made the M9 retail at $299 and left the M13 at $499, that would seem about right. (maybe $349 for the M9). At street prices, there seems to be only $50-$75 difference.

I know the M13 isn't as small, light or convenient, but with the individual LCD's, and the abillity to run four effects are once, with four more "in the bank", is a big difference, imo.

What says ye?

I've always thought the price difference (indifference?) was out of wack as well. I' not a big effects user, but if I were, I'd use one of these. The M13 does have advantages - except the size. That's where the M9 should come in, but there should be more of a price difference to reflect what you are not getting - effects loop options, more displays, etc.

IMO if you are replacing a board (instead of augmenting) then there is NO reason to get the M9 unless you're really dead set on carrying something small or saving a few bucks. The M9's only advantage is that it fits well on a board with other pedals. The price difference was never enough for me to consider the M9.

That's what I was thinking. And yes, if I buy one, it will replace my board. I can then sell the effects to help recoup some of the cost.
(I need to replace the case to my pedalboard, and that would cost a minimum of $60, also)

I found several decent deals on both, but folks won't write me back. Around $300-310 for M13. Around $275 for M9. A couple of auctions below those figures that are sure to rise before ending.

Anyone that finds one, and does't buy it, please post it somewhere. Looks like there will be a bunch of TB'ers interested.:bassist:

Thanks. CD

Just to clarify you have seen some m13's for around 300- 310?
The only one I have seen on my local craigslist the guy wants over 400.

Opinion --- do not sell your stuff right away. Out off the folks I know about 1/2 of them go back to stomp boxes. I believe their expectations were out of step with realism.

Glad I took the plunge.. may be good to know the true history
